Lane Kiffin showed up at Tiger Stadium with some heavy local star power again on Saturday.
As LSU prepared to face Louisiana Tech in Week 2 at home, Kiffin made his entrance in Baton Rouge alongside rappers Lil Wayne and Lil Boosie, plus LSU legend Tyrann Mathieu. It was another eye-catching walk into the stadium for Kiffin, who has leaned into celebrity company in his first two weeks.
Reporters spotted Kiffin coming off the team bus with Mathieu, the former LSU safety known as “Honey Badger,” before Boosie and Wayne joined the scene as well.
Lil Boosie, a Baton Rouge native, has long been tied to LSU and is known for songs such as “Wipe Me Down,” featuring Foxx and Webbie, and “Set It Off.” Lil Wayne, born and raised in New Orleans, has also been a regular presence around LSU football and was the guest picker for the Tigers’ game against Alabama in 2016.
Mathieu’s connection to LSU goes back to his standout run under Les Miles. In 2011, he set an SEC record with 11 forced fumbles and won the Chuck Bednarik Award as the nation’s top defensive player.
He was dismissed from the team in 2012, reportedly because of multiple failed drug tests, then entered the 2013 NFL Draft and was taken by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round. Mathieu played 12 seasons in the NFL with the Cardinals, Texans, Chiefs and Saints, and won a Super Bowl with Kansas City in 2020.
Kiffin’s celebrity walk-ins have already become a theme. Against Clemson last week, he arrived with former LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, comedian Theo Vonn and actress Brooks Nader.
