Ole Miss is back in the spotlight Saturday, and this time the Rebels get College GameDay in Oxford for the seventh time in program history when LSU comes to town.
That kind of stage used to be rare for Ole Miss. ESPN’s pregame show didn’t make it to Oxford until 2014, more than 20 years after College GameDay started visiting campuses in 1993. Since then, though, the Rebels have turned those weekends into some of the biggest moments in the program’s recent history.
Ole Miss is 3-3 all-time when it plays at the GameDay host site, and it’s 2-0 when the show originates from Oxford. The first trip to The Grove came on Oct. 4, 2014, before a showdown with No.
3 Alabama, and Ole Miss delivered a 23-17 comeback win. That game sparked a field storming at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, a wild postgame scene that eventually sent goal posts through Oxford, and even included Katy Perry at Funky’s afterward.
The Rebels were back in the GameDay spotlight only three weeks later, this time in Baton Rouge on Oct. 25, 2014.
Ranked No. 3 at the time, Ole Miss dropped a 10-7 game to No. 24 LSU for its first loss of the season.
A year later, the road stage produced another signature result. On Sept.
19, 2015, No. 15 Ole Miss went to Tuscaloosa and beat No.
2 Alabama, 43-37. That win gave the Rebels back-to-back victories over Alabama for the first time in program history, and it stood as only their second win ever in Tuscaloosa.
After that, GameDay stayed away from Oxford for six years before returning in 2021. Ole Miss made that one count, beating No.
11 Texas A&M, 29-19, on Nov. 13.
The last two GameDay appearances have been in Athens, and both ended badly for the Rebels. In 2023, No.
10 Ole Miss lost 52-17 to No. 2 Georgia.
Two years later, Ole Miss came back and fell 43-35 to the Bulldogs. That 2025 loss was the Rebels’ only regular-season defeat, and they later answered it by beating Georgia in the Sugar Bowl, which doubled as a CFP quarterfinal game.
Saturday’s matchup carries a little extra weight in the rankings, too. LSU and Ole Miss are seventh and eighth, respectively, in the AP Top 25, and it’s the first time since 1962 that both teams have been in the AP top 10 for a meeting. Both were also top-10 teams in the Coaches Poll in 2024, when LSU beat Ole Miss in Baton Rouge.
