Lane Kiffin sure knows how to stir up a debate. The LSU head coach, known for his strategic social media presence, recently ignited a firestorm among college football fans. This time, his tweet managed to unite USC and LSU supporters, along with fans from other programs, in a lively discussion.
Kiffin retweeted a post from Trojan Football, challenging fans to name a trio that impacted college football more than USC’s legendary trio of Reggie Bush, LenDale White, and Matt Leinart. His bold response?
“No one except Ja’Marr, Justin, and Joe!! These 6 #JustDifferent,” referring to the 2019 LSU championship trio of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson.
By tagging both LSU and USC, Kiffin essentially crowned these two trios as equals, sparking a spirited debate.
The 2019 LSU offense was nothing short of spectacular, going 15-0 and scoring 60 touchdowns against some of the toughest defenses. Joe Burrow threw for an astounding 5,671 yards, winning the Heisman Trophy.
Ja’Marr Chase led the nation with 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns, while Justin Jefferson added 1,540 yards from the slot. All three players quickly became NFL superstars.
Fans were quick to jump into the fray. Some LSU supporters backed Kiffin’s claim wholeheartedly, while others from USC and beyond weren’t convinced.
Auburn fans chimed in, arguing that their trio of Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, and Jason Campbell would have outperformed the USC legends. Miami fans also made their case, recalling their own championship-winning lineup.
Despite the online chaos, Kiffin has moved on to focus on the upcoming season. With Spring Camp starting on March 24, LSU has revamped its support staff.
Jon Randall Belton is now the Assistant General Manager for External Operations, and Adam Clark from North Carolina State has joined as Assistant GM for Internal Operations. Carl St.
Cyr has taken on the role of Assistant Director of Player Personnel, while Dwike Wilson, following Kiffin from Ole Miss, serves as Executive Director of Recruiting and Personnel. The standout addition is Tee Martin, who signed on as an offensive analyst after his stint with the Baltimore Ravens.
Kiffin’s recruiting prowess is already on display, securing the nation’s top recruiting class with nine Top-100 signees and making impactful moves in the transfer portal. While fans continue their debates online, Kiffin’s focus is firmly on the field, where the real action is about to begin.
