Lane Kiffin Family Drama Adds To LSU Fans' Frustration After Loss

Lane Kiffin's daughter finds herself in the social media spotlight due to her varied SEC team allegiances amidst a tumultuous football season.

Lane Kiffin’s daughter, Landry, has made a habit of spreading her SEC support around, and that flexibility drew plenty of eye rolls online over the weekend.

The LSU coach’s daughter has obviously shown love for her father’s Tigers, and she’s also backing her boyfriend, linebacker Whit Weeks. At the same time, she’s a student at Ole Miss and has been rooting for the Rebels, too. Then came another twist: she added Texas to the list while watching the Red River Rivalry Game against Oklahoma.

“a change of scenery,” she wrote.

That was enough to set off criticism in her Instagram comments. Some fans took playful shots at her divided loyalties, while others were more pointed.

“Just can’t pick a winning team 🤦,” one fan joked. “Bro lsu AND Texas lost 😭😭 yo please don’t root for ole miss gang 🙏🏻,” one fan added.

“Didn’t your boy play for LSU? 😂,” one fan added.

Landry Kiffin was simply enjoying a big college football game that didn’t involve LSU or Ole Miss, but social media in 2026 doesn’t exactly reward casual fandom.

While she was pulling for Texas in a loss to Oklahoma, her father had his own rough Saturday. Lane Kiffin’s LSU team took an upset loss at Kentucky, and he made clear afterward that execution was the difference.

“If you don’t execute, you don’t execute,” Kiffin told reporters. “The punt return, you got a player there tackling him and doesn’t tackle him, and he goes outside and, you know, on the long run, he swooped out of a gap and the ball goes for a long run. If you don’t do fundamentally sound stuff, you get exposed versus good teams.”

Kiffin also pointed to LSU’s failure to close things out when it had the chance.

“When the chance comes in the fourth quarter, you can’t let ’em hang around,” Kiffin told reporters. “We had the ball ahead and then we turned the ball over.

And another chance to end it there so they don’t get it back. Obviously, things go the other way, you look at yourself first.”

The loss dropped LSU to 4-2 on the year.

Lane Kiffin Faces A Dangerous LSU Temptation Right Now

LSUs fast start has given way to a rougher stretch in league play, and the Tigers are suddenly trying to steady themselves after consecutive SEC losses. There have still been flashes of what this team can become, especially on offense, but the inconsistency has been hard to ignore. Too often, LSU has left plays on the field in the moments that matter most, and the defensive effort has followed a similar pattern, with strong outings mixed in with performances that have not held up against conference competition.

For Lane Kiffin, the appeal is obvious because the talent is there and the upside has already shown up in stretches. The challenge now is figuring out whether LSU can turn those promising pieces into something more durable before the seasons biggest games start to define it. The Tigers have enough capability to stay in the conversation, but the margin for error keeps shrinking until the execution catches up with the potential. [Read more 🡒]

LSU Brings Auburn Fans A Bigger Question Than Media Day Absences

LSUs trip to SEC Media Day in Birmingham ended up looking a little thinner than planned, with coach Will Wade and several members of the program left behind by weather problems in Baton Rouge. The same travel issue also kept transfers Abdi Bashir Jr. and Mouhamed Dioubate from making the event, while Kim Mulkey and several LSU womens players were also absent from their own session, turning what should have been a routine preseason stop into a logistics story almost as much as a basketball one.

Beneath the inconvenience, though, the more interesting question for LSU is what the roster actually looks like once the season gets moving. The programs official group has been updated to 10 players, but several names still are not appearing there, and Wade has already been open about taking an unconventional approach to building out this team. For Auburn fans and everyone else around the league, the media-day absences were only the surface issue. The bigger issue is figuring out how complete LSU really is before the real games begin. LSU Is Back In A Fight That Could Test Its SEC Future

LSU is back in the middle of a legal fight with the SEC, and this one reaches beyond the usual conference squabbling over rules and enforcement. The dispute centers on the eligibility of players added to the Tigers football and mens basketball rosters, with the league raising concerns that those rules may have been stretched, especially in cases involving athletes with professional experience.

The SEC has already gone as far as threatening punishments and even possible removal from the conference, which gives the issue a far different feel than a routine compliance argument. Mens basketball coach Will Wade has added to the scrutiny by signing several international players with professional backgrounds, leaving LSU facing a problem that is as much about its future place in the league as it is about the players now on campus.
