Lane Kiffin took a break from the legal noise surrounding LSU to be where he wanted to be Friday night: on the sideline for his son’s high school debut.
Less than 24 hours after the SEC filed a lawsuit against Kiffin and LSU, the Tigers head coach was spotted behind the end zone at LSU Laboratory School’s game against Archbishop Rummel. The appearance was shown on the Varsity Sports Now broadcast and also appeared in an X post from Preston Guy.
Knox Kiffin is making his debut for U-High after transferring from Oxford High School when his father took the LSU job.
On the field, U-High got on the board first when Corbin Odell found the end zone to open the second quarter.
The timing of Kiffin’s presence added another layer to a busy stretch around LSU. On Sept. 3, a Louisiana court voted to allow more than a dozen former college athletes to return to college even though their eligibility had expired after last season. Kiffin was central to that ruling, since he has allowed players who already took part in NFL training camps to join his program.
LSU opens its season tomorrow against Clemson at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Friday’s game also drew another familiar Louisiana football name to the sideline. Former LSU star and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was there for his younger brother, Colton, in his debut for Rummel, joined by their father and New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.
Colton Nussmeier, a four-star Georgia commit, transferred to Rummel after an eligibility battle at Denton Ryan High School in Texas.
At the time of the update, U-High led Archbishop Rummel 14-7 with six minutes left in the first half.
