Jayden Daniels’ fight with LSU over his old No. 5 has spilled into a very public mess, and StubHub just made sure it got even louder.
The Washington Commanders quarterback and his family were upset when LSU handed his former jersey number to sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett. Daniels’ side had expected No. 5 to be treated more like Joe Burrow’s unissued No.
- Instead, the move sparked a cease-and-desist letter from Daniels’ camp, which revoked LSU’s right to use his name, image and likeness.
Lane Kiffin later said the number had been legally promised to Pickett as part of his commitment.
Daniels eventually addressed the situation on social media, thanking LSU for his time there while making clear the issue between his team and the school still needs to be worked out. He also said his main focus is on his current season.
Then StubHub jumped in.
The ticket marketplace posted a joke that quickly took off online, saying it was banning groups of five tickets “out of respect” for Daniels. The company said only groups of 4 or 6 or more would be available going forward. It also paired the message with a mock seating chart for an upcoming Commanders game that avoided any exact group of five seats.
The post blew up fast, racking up 4.8 million views and drawing reactions across social media. One reply summed up the mood this way: “Dude is getting absolutely dunked on today. What an embarrassing situation all around,” one person replied.
While the LSU dispute keeps making noise, Daniels is trying to move on from a rough 2025 season that was derailed by injuries. After winning Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024, he was limited to just seven games the following year because of knee, hamstring, elbow and ankle injuries. His efficiency also dipped, with his completion percentage and passer rating both falling.
Now, Daniels is heading into 2026 with a healthier outlook. He is said to be 100% healthy, and he has looked sharp and “surgical” during August training camp and joint scrimmages. The hope is that once he starts stacking wins, the LSU drama fades with it.
