Nussmeier's injury was a constant thorn, causing a stabbing pain every time he threw the ball. It wasn't until recently that he and his doctors pinpointed the issue, allowing him to focus on proper recovery.
Fast forward to the Senior Bowl in February, where Nussmeier had just nine days to prepare. Despite the tight timeline, he shone brightly, earning MVP honors and setting his sights on the NFL combine.
Speaking to reporters, Nussmeier shared his determination to prove his worth in the NFL. "I want to prove that I belong in the NFL," he said. "Whether it's a backup role or an on-field role, I just want to show that I belong in this league."
Having operated primarily in a spread, West Coast offense at LSU, Nussmeier feels confident he can adapt to various NFL schemes. He's met with numerous teams, emphasizing his versatility and willingness to embrace any role.
"My skillset can fit into whatever system I'm asked to do," he explained. "One of my superpowers is my ability to process and retain information."
Despite the setbacks of the past season, Nussmeier is generating buzz as a potential third-round pick. With Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson leading the quarterback prospects, Nussmeier finds himself in the next tier. A strong performance at the combine could boost his draft stock even further.
While last season may have dented his draft prospects, Nussmeier is nearly back to full health and eager to showcase his abilities. He acknowledges that the athletic testing isn't his forte, but a solid day throwing could significantly aid his cause.
Amidst the media scrum, Nussmeier also touched on Lane Kiffin and the new LSU regime set to take over in 2026. "I've known coach Kiffin for a while," he said.
"He's an unbelievable ball coach and a magician with the X's and O's. I think he's great for Louisiana and the locker room."
