Garrett Nussmeier is making waves after his impressive showing at the Senior Bowl, a performance that could very well boost his draft prospects. The former LSU quarterback is now setting his sights on the upcoming NFL scouting combine, hoping to build on that momentum.
Nussmeier, who took home the Senior Bowl MVP honors, has another opportunity to catch the eyes of NFL teams with his interviews and testing at the combine. However, his journey to the draft has been anything but straightforward. A challenging season marred by injuries has left scouts and analysts with mixed feelings about his potential as a top-tier pick.
So, where might Nussmeier end up in the draft? NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah sees him as a third-round talent, though he acknowledges the unpredictable nature of the draft. “I feel like that’s the sweet spot for him,” Jeremiah noted, adding that Nussmeier's skill set could even see him sneak into the second round.
Jeremiah, drawing from his experience as a former scout, highlighted Nussmeier’s ability to perform from the pocket despite his 6-foot-1 stature. He praised Nussmeier’s arm strength and resilience, noting, “He doesn’t need a lot of foot space to operate.”
The Senior Bowl conditions were less than ideal, with cold and windy weather, yet Nussmeier’s performance didn’t falter. “He’s really, really tough,” Jeremiah remarked, impressed by how the quarterback handled the elements.
Throughout the 2025 season, Nussmeier battled a persistent abdominal injury, which eventually sidelined him in November. Despite not being fully healthy, he used the time to focus on rehab and refine his throwing mechanics.
Jeremiah compared Nussmeier’s style of play to that of NFL veteran Andy Dalton, who was a second-round pick for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011 and later played for the Saints. The comparison underscores Nussmeier’s potential to carve out a successful career at the professional level.
Reflecting on Nussmeier’s performance at the Senior Bowl, Jeremiah described it as a significant comeback, setting the stage for what could be an exciting next chapter in Nussmeier’s football journey.
