Jack Pyburn’s football future is still in play, and for now the former LSU defensive end is keeping his focus on the field while his representatives sort through the rest.
Pyburn, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, is among the players caught up in the wave of legal challenges tied to the NCAA’s recent “5-for-5” eligibility ruling. Temporary restraining orders in multiple states have opened the door for some NFL players to consider a return to college football, and a Louisiana judge’s TRO would allow Pyburn to head back to the college game if he decides that’s the route he wants to take.
For the moment, though, he’s not making a public push one way or the other.
“I don’t want to speak too much on it. My agents are handling it.
They’re doing it in my best interests,” Pyburn said during a recent media session. “I’m just focused on playing good football.
I love being here. I’ve been going as hard as I can to make this team and be a part of this special organization.”
That’s the clearest sign yet that Pyburn isn’t rushing the decision. He’s staying locked in on Tampa Bay while the bigger question lingers in the background.
Pyburn’s college career stretched across two stops. He spent three seasons at Florida, where he totaled 80 tackles, five tackles for loss, a sack and an interception. After shifting into more of a defensive end role in 2024, he transferred to LSU and finished last fall with 52 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.
