Ed Orgeron Is Already Raising The Standard At LSU Camp

Ed Orgeron's return to LSU in a pivotal assistant role brings a mix of humor, energy, and high expectations to the team's quest to reclaim postseason glory under Lane Kiffin.

LSU’s practice field has a familiar force cutting through the noise this fall, and players say Ed Orgeron is already leaving a mark.

Back in the building as an assistant for defense and recruiting under Lane Kiffin, Orgeron is drawing attention from both sides of the ball as camp ramps up. Offensive tackle Jordan Seaton said the former LSU head coach brings a mix of volume, humor and urgency that players can feel immediately.

"Coach O is probably the loudest coach I've ever heard, but he's also the funniest, and he means business," offensive tackle Jordan Seaton said.

Orgeron, who led LSU to the 2019 national championship before leaving the program, returns to a team carrying big expectations under Kiffin. The Tigers have not played meaningful postseason football since that title run, but the roster looks different now, built around the No. 1 transfer portal class and a young core from the 2026 high school signing class.

His day-to-day work has him around a group that includes major newcomers and freshmen, among them five-stars Lamar Brown and Richard Anderson. Both defensive linemen are Louisiana products and had already crossed paths publicly with Orgeron early in their LSU careers.

Ole Miss transfer Princewill Umanmielen, who followed Kiffin after an All-SEC season with the Rebels, said Orgeron’s energy changes the feel of the room.

"He was loud and he was real passionate," Umanmielen said. "You could tell his energy was going to change the tone of the whole team.

He's a great addition to the team. We look forward to having him here."

Seaton said Orgeron’s edge and familiarity with LSU’s standards earned quick respect inside the program. For him, that kind of blunt leadership matters.

"He doesn't take BS and I think we need that from all our coaches, and he's a big part of that," Seaton said. "He's been in this program before, so he knows what it looks like to win, and I'm happy to have him. We all are."

Jayden Daniels Is Suddenly Facing An LSU Fan Backlash

Jayden Daniels is back in the middle of an LSU conversation he probably would rather leave behind. The former Tigers star, now with the Washington Commanders, is in a dispute with LSU over the use of his name, image and likeness, and the issue has drawn extra attention because the school allowed another player to wear his former jersey number.

The reaction has not been quiet, either. ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum publicly criticized Daniels response and said the quarterback has lost support within LSU Nation, adding a sharper edge to what had already become a sensitive topic for fans who still view Daniels as one of the programs recent standard-bearers. For now, Daniels is preparing for his first NFL season opener with Washington against the Eagles on Sept. 13, even as the LSU chatter continues to linger. [Read more 🡒]

Garrett Nussmeier Gives LSU Fans Their First Real NFL Look

Garrett Nussmeiers first NFL preseason outing gave LSU fans a familiar face to track on a new stage, even if it came in a Kansas City Chiefs loss. The former Tigers quarterback completed 13 of 19 passes for 98 yards and was sacked twice, offering a steady if unspectacular glimpse of how his game is translating after a college career that made him one of the more productive passers in program history.

Selected 249th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, Nussmeier arrived in the league after throwing for 7,699 yards and 52 touchdowns at LSU, though his final college season was shortened by injury before it ran its course. Preseason games do not settle much, but for a quarterback trying to carve out a place in the pros, every snap matters and every early impression can shape the conversation around what comes next.
