LSU Baseball Shines with Evans' Stellar Performance
Tiger fans, if you were questioning Casan Evans' place as a Game 1 weekend starter, last night's performance against Oklahoma should put those doubts to rest. In a commanding 7-1 victory, Evans delivered a masterclass on the mound, striking out 15 batters over eight and one-third innings, with just one walk and an unearned run. This remarkable feat marks the highest strikeout count in an SEC regular-season game since Paul Skenes in 2023 and ranks second in LSU history, just behind Kurt Ainsworth's 16 strikeouts against Tennessee nearly 27 years ago.
The Tigers didn't need much offense thanks to Evans' dominance. Oklahoma handed LSU an early advantage with five runs, courtesy of former Tiger Cameron Johnson's struggles.
Johnson exited early after walking six and hitting another batter, compounded by four defensive errors in the first one-and-a-third innings. LSU capitalized, leading 4-0 without a single hit.
Big John Pearson broke the hit drought with a run-scoring single off reliever Xander Mercurius. The score held at 5-0 until a fifth-inning error allowed Oklahoma to score an unearned run. Despite a dropped third strike, LSU's defense held strong, making only one other miscue.
Omar Serna, continuing his hot streak, opened the seventh with a double, followed by Pearson's second hit of the night. This set the stage for Zach Yorke, who redeemed an earlier error with a two-RBI single to center.
Ethan Plog and Zach Cowan sealed the win, with Cowan retiring the final four batters in order, marking his second consecutive strong performance. The Tigers' offense may not have been at its best - managing seven hits and leaving 10 men on base - but it was more than enough with Evans leading the charge.
Evans' performance against the No. 8 team in the nation is a promising sign for LSU's season. The Tigers aim to keep the momentum going and secure the series victory tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Remembering Ned Clark
Lastly, we remember Ned Clark, a standout from LSU’s 1953 NCAA Final Four team, who passed away at 92. A Baton Rouge native and former U.S.
Air Force captain, Clark was a beloved figure at LSU games. Our thoughts are with his family during this time.
May he rest in peace.
