USF Bulls Land Chris Mack From Surprising Coaching Stop

USF Bulls make a strategic move by appointing seasoned coach Chris Mack, aiming to elevate their men's basketball program with his proven track record and leadership.

Chris Mack is stepping in as the new head coach for the USF Bulls, bringing a wealth of experience and accolades to Tampa. Known for his successful stints at Xavier and Louisville, Mack is poised to elevate the Bulls' basketball program.

Mack's journey to USF comes after two impressive seasons at Charleston, where he led the team with a solid 45-20 record. Despite the success, he couldn't quite push the Cougars into the NCAA Tournament, but his time there was a key period of growth and rebuilding.

During his tenure at Xavier, Mack was a force to be reckoned with, earning the title of 2016 National Coach of the Year and securing both Big East and Atlantic-10 Coach of the Year honors. His leadership saw Xavier make it to the NCAA Tournament in eight out of nine seasons, with notable runs to the Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight appearance.

USF's CEO of athletics, Rob Higgins, expressed enthusiasm about Mack's appointment, highlighting the program's momentum and Mack's potential to take it to new heights. "Bulls basketball has incredible momentum, and we've found an outstanding coach and leader to elevate our program to the next level," Higgins stated.

While Mack's time at Louisville had its challenges, including NCAA infractions and limited tournament success, his recent work at Charleston has refreshed his reputation. Now, he's ready to bring his strategic acumen and leadership to the Bulls.

Mack himself is eager to embrace this new chapter, stating, "I am truly excited for the opportunity to lead a South Florida basketball program that's on an exceptional trajectory and to join a university and athletic department defined by strong leadership, shared aspirations, and tremendous alignment."

With Mack at the helm, USF fans have every reason to be optimistic about the future of their basketball program.
