UCF Knights Shake Up Running Backs Room with Strategic Transfer Moves

UCF football strengthens its ground game with fresh talent from the transfer portal, aiming to revitalize its running backs group after key departures.

The buzz around UCF's running back situation has been palpable this offseason, and for good reason. With last year's rushing offense ranking 11th in the Big 12, averaging 158 yards per game, the Knights knew they needed to shake things up.

Myles Montgomery and Jaden Nixon were the workhorses last season. Montgomery led the charge with 143 carries for 705 yards, while Nixon notched seven touchdowns on 71 carries, amassing 554 yards. With both players moving on, and Stacy Gage transferring out, the Knights faced a depth challenge.

Returning to the fold are Taevion Swint, who’s coming back from a fall camp injury, walk-on Agyeman Addae, and true freshman Chance Nixon. Addae saw limited action last season, rushing for 50 yards on 12 carries.

To bolster the lineup, UCF tapped into the transfer market, bringing in Duke Watson from Louisville and Landen Chambers from Central Arkansas. Coach Scott Frost expressed his enthusiasm in January, highlighting Watson's long-standing potential. Watson, a 4-star recruit from Georgia, impressed with 755 yards on 116 carries, averaging a solid 6.5 yards per attempt.

Trent Mossbrucker, UCF’s general manager of football player personnel, shares a special connection with Watson, having followed his high school career closely.

Landen Chambers brings a different dynamic with his size and power. Chambers rushed for 1,449 yards and 11 touchdowns during his time with the Bears. Frost is eager to see how Chambers' physicality will complement the team's existing talents.

Swint, a promising talent, is back after recovering from a meniscus injury. His speed and playmaking ability make him an exciting prospect for the Knights. Addae, who showed flashes of potential last season, will also look to make an impact.

Adding to the mix are newcomers Kaj Baker and Arthur Lewis IV, both 3-star recruits. Baker hails from Somerset Academy in Miami, and Lewis from Bartram Trail High School in Palatka.

With a refreshed roster and healthy competition brewing, Coach Frost is optimistic about the depth and potential of his running back room. The Knights are poised to make a statement on the ground this season.
