Paul Petrino Issues Tough Challenge To Louisville Tight Ends

Can Louisville's tight ends rise to the challenge and lead the charge as the toughest unit in this year's spring practice?

Louisville football has been hard at work, wrapping up their fifth day of spring practice on Friday at the Trager Center. As they gear up for their first scrimmage on Saturday morning, the team is honing their skills and building chemistry.

Friday's session was a bit shorter, but it was packed with intensity as the team prepares to showcase their progress. Senior Offensive Assistant Paul Petrino, who focuses on the tight ends, shared some insights with the media. Petrino, a familiar face at Louisville, returns for his third stint with the program, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous roles, including wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator.

Petrino is optimistic about the potential of Louisville's tight end group. Leading the charge is redshirt senior Jaleel Skinner, who is entering his third season with the Cardinals.

Joining him are senior Justyn Reid, a transfer from Tulane, and Tulsa transfer Brody Foley, both bringing size and strength to the lineup. Redshirt sophomore Dylan Mesman and true freshman Julius Miles add depth and promise to the unit.

"We've got a chance to have a really solid group," Petrino noted. "Skinner, with his experience and talent, is a standout.

He's fast and explosive. Our focus is on getting better every day.

The transfers add a physical presence that can really help us. Our goal is to be the toughest and hardest-working group on the field, and we've hit that mark a few times already, but we aim to achieve it consistently."

After practice, Skinner and Reid also took a moment to speak with the media, sharing their thoughts on the team's progress and goals.

For fans eager to catch the Cardinals in action, there are a couple of opportunities on the horizon:

  • Saturday, March 28, at 9:45 a.m.
  • Friday, April 17, at 6:00 p.m. for the Spring Game
