Louisville’s recruiting momentum is rolling straight into the 2027 class, and the latest development puts the Cardinals in the mix for one of the cycle’s biggest names.
Five-star center Darius Wabbington has trimmed his list to six schools, and Louisville is among the programs still standing. Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona also made the cut, setting up a crowded battle for the 6-foot-11, 245-pound big man.
The Cardinals also landed an early scheduling win. Wabbington has already lined up his first three official visits, and Louisville will get the first crack at him on September 11. Arizona is next on September 25, followed by Texas on October 9.
Wabbington is viewed as one of the premier frontcourt prospects in the 2027 class. He is ranked as high as No. 13 overall and No. 1 among centers. He also checks in at No. 4 among recruits from Arizona.
His junior season at Sunnyslope High was a strong one, as he averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. He also represented Team USA on its U18 National Team, posting 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists during a silver medal run.
Louisville’s interest makes sense given how aggressively Pat Kelsey has attacked recruiting since the 2025-26 season. The Cardinals have already landed nine commitments in that span, including six from the Transfer Portal and three from the 2026 recruiting class, and now they’re pushing to keep that wave going with the next crop.
The center spot is clearly a priority. Louisville originally landed Obinna Ekezie Jr., who ranked No. 1 overall in the 2027 cycle and No. 1 among centers, but Ekezie reclassified to the 2026 class. That left Kelsey and his staff back in the market for another elite big, and Wabbington is now right at the top of that search.
Louisville already has one commitment in the 2027 class: Louisville native Ferlandes Wright, a four-star prospect who ranks as high as No. 61 nationally.
