Louisville’s push in the 2027 class is starting to take shape, and one of the biggest names on the board is already setting up a heavyweight recruiting fight.
Pat Kelsey has been active on the high school circuit this offseason, showing up at multiple recruiting events and making it clear the Cardinals want in on the nation’s best young talent. At the center of that effort is 5-star small forward Demarcus Henry, one of Louisville’s top targets in a loaded 2027 group.
Henry recently trimmed his list to eight schools, and Louisville made the cut. So did Kentucky, setting up another round in one of college basketball’s most familiar battles. The Wildcats and Cardinals have been locked in a rivalry since 1912, and this one could become one of the marquee recruiting showdowns of the cycle.
A Kentucky basketball insider reported that Henry plans to visit all eight of his finalists and expects to sign in the spring of 2027. Kentucky is among the schools on that itinerary, and Louisville is expected to be in the mix for a visit as well.
Henry’s final eight are Arkansas, BYU, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Ohio State, and UConn.
On3 Sports currently gives Ohio State the early edge, listing the Buckeyes as the favorite with a 23.9 percent chance to land him. Still, Louisville has already shown it can win big recruiting battles this offseason. Kelsey landed former 2027 No. 1 overall recruit Obinna Ekezie Jr., and he also put together the top-ranked transfer portal class, highlighted by No. 1 overall transfer Flory Bidunga.
Now the Cardinals are trying to carry that momentum into another major chase.
Henry is ranked as high as No. 3 overall and No. 1 among small forwards. He’s coming off a strong season at Compass Prep, where he averaged 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

Bentley Lusakueno is already on Louisvilles radar, and for a program that consistently has to think ahead on the recruiting trail, that matters. The 2028 five-star center has been in early conversations with the Cardinals, including with assistant coach Sean Dixon, as the staff starts to get a feel for one of the most intriguing young bigs in the country.
Lusakueno is still focused on improving his game and hasnt locked in any visits yet, though he expects to start making them in the fall.
