Louisville football is counting down to its Week 1 date with Ole Miss, but one of the biggest reasons Cardinals fans are already buzzing is what Ja’Hyde Brown keeps doing on Friday nights.
Brown, Louisville’s top 2027 commit, is a Louisville native and a 4-star wide receiver who has wasted no time making noise for Christian Academy of Louisville. The Cardinals have 16 commitments in their 2027 recruiting class, including several from Kentucky, but Brown sits at the top of the list.
He backed that up again Friday against Owensboro in a matchup that carried plenty of weight on paper. CAL came in ranked No. 10 in the state by MaxPreps, while Owensboro checked in at No.

Christian Academy of Louisville rolled to a 52-0 win, and Brown turned in another huge night with five catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns.
The highlight came on one of those scores. Brown, listed at 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, got behind the corner, flashed his speed, and found space in the secondary before CAL’s quarterback dropped in a perfect ball. Brown finished it off with a one-handed catch in the end zone.
Christian Academy of Louisville’s start has been every bit as lopsided as Brown’s stat lines. The team has now won 24 straight games, including a 41-0 Week 1 win over Pikeville. Brown was electric in that one too, going for 11 catches, 180 yards and four touchdowns.
His rise hasn’t been limited to the field this fall. Brown won MVP at The Opening this summer, and that performance helped send his stock soaring. He moved from No. 252 to No. 66 overall, jumped to No. 11 among wide receivers, and became the No. 1 player in Kentucky.
For Louisville, that’s the kind of commitment that keeps fans locked in on the future. Brown is giving them exactly the kind of reason to be excited about what comes next in red and black.
