Louisville is almost at the finish line of camp and almost at kickoff, with the Cardinals set to open the season against Ole Miss on Sept. 6 at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee. It’s a heavyweight start right away: the 24th-ranked Cardinals against the 9th-ranked Rebels.
On offense, the spotlight starts with two names that will shape everything Louisville wants to do. Running back Isaac Brown gives the Cardinals one of the most electric offensive threats in the country, while Lincoln Kienholz arrives through the transfer portal to take over as the starting quarterback. If Louisville is going to make a real push this season, those two are going to sit near the center of it.
But Jeff Brohm’s offense is not built on just those headliners. Louisville has playmakers and depth across the skill positions, and that gives the Cardinals a chance to keep raising the bar offensively this fall. Brohm said the group understands what’s in front of it.
"I think this team is hungry," Brohm said. "I think we realize that we've come close in multiple years.
I think we've been able to retain some key players and also add some great additions that are coming here with a purpose. They want to play football at the highest level."
With that kind of setup, the list of offensive MVP candidates doesn’t stop at Brown and Kienholz. Louisville has five players who could end up being central to how far the offense goes, and all of them will need to perform at a high level if the Cardinals are going to turn that talent into production.
