Louisville’s lone 2027 commit wasted no time making noise when the first July evaluation period opened. Ferlandes Wright, a four-star forward, delivered a big showing on the Nike EYBL Circuit in Las Vegas and backed up the buzz around his name.
The 6-foot-7, 220-pound power forward posted 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting and grabbed 17 rebounds as Indy Heat rolled past the Oakland Soldiers, 80-53, on Thursday night. Wright also chipped in three assists in the win.
Wright, a Louisville native, recently spoke with CardinalAuthority about why he chose the Cardinals, and he pointed first to the people around the program.
"I got to know them more, and they've been committed to me first," Wright said. "Coach Pat Kelsey and all the other coaches on the staff have the same goal for me as I have for myself.
I decided to go for it. Not to mention, it's the hometown.
I know the history of basketball in Louisville. It was definitely something I was excited to commit to."
Rankings-wise, Wright checks in as the No. 8 power forward and No. 59 overall player in the 247Sports rankings. The 247Sports Composite has him at No. 9 among power forwards and No. 74 nationally.
He also described the kind of player he believes he is, and how Louisville plans to use that skill set.
"Everybody knows I'm just a versatile player," Wright said. "We all know Pat Kelsey loves somebody who can shoot.
He's putting me in positions to show my versatility. I'll do whatever I have to do to help the team and win.
I'm definitely willing to do anything to win."
