Louisvilles Florida State Test May Come Down To One Offensive Absence

The Cardinals face a challenging decision with Keyjuan Brown's uncertain status as they prepare for a pivotal clash against Florida State.

Louisville’s biggest injury question heading into Friday night’s matchup with Florida State is still hanging over the Cardinals: will Keyjuan Brown be able to go?

Brown has been listed as questionable all week, and according to On3 Sports’ Pete Nakos, he is expected to remain a game-time decision for the home showdown. Louisville did get a bit of positive news elsewhere, with starting defensive back Koen Entringer set to play, but Brown’s status is the one that matters most for the offense.

Louisville enters the game at 2-3 after back-to-back losses and sitting at 1-2 in ACC play, making this a must-win spot for Jeff Brohm if the Cardinals want any shot at getting back to the ACC Championship Game.

Brown has been one of Brohm’s most important weapons this season. After a junior year in which he logged 96 carries for 704 yards and six rushing touchdowns, Brown finished that 2025 stretch strong, averaging 7.3 yards per carry and topping 94 rushing yards in each of his final five games. His last three outings were especially explosive, with totals of 136, 135 and 112 yards.

This season, Brown has taken over as Louisville’s top running back. He leads the team with 367 rushing yards on just 38 carries and is averaging 9.7 yards per carry, best among Cardinals with more than 10 rushing attempts.

If Brown can’t suit up, Louisville will need more from Isaac Brown, who was a preseason All-American and finally had his breakout performance last week with 125 rushing yards, his first 100-yard game of the year. The Cardinals also have depth behind him, including Marquise Davis, a 4-star transfer from Missouri who has turned eight carries into 88 yards this season.

Louisville has enough bodies to piece together a backfield plan if Keyjuan Brown is unavailable. But with Florida State coming to town on Friday night, Brohm would clearly prefer to have his most dangerous runner on the field.

Florida State Has A Chance To Make A Real ACC Statement Tonight

Florida State gets a timely chance to make some noise in the ACC tonight when it meets Louisville in a game that carries more weight than a typical conference date this early in the season. Both teams are looking for a win to help their records, and the matchup has enough familiar pressure points to shape the night, from how the Seminoles handle Louisvilles defense to whether the Cardinals can assert themselves on both sides of the ball.

Ashton Daniels is a central figure for Florida State, and how he fares against Louisville could go a long way toward deciding whether the Seminoles can turn this into the statement game they are chasing. The Cardinals have their own strengths and weaknesses to sort through on offense and defense, but the bigger question is whether they can keep Florida State from seizing momentum and turning the upset prediction into a real jolt for the league race. Louisville Faces A Friday Night Test It Cant Afford To Fail

Louisville heads into Friday night needing a response, and it comes with a tricky trip to Florida State. At 2-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, the Cardinals are still trying to steady a season that has already put them in an early bind, which makes this one feel a little more urgent than a typical league game in October.

Florida State is coming off a win over Virginia, helped by quarterback Ashton Daniels accounting for five rushing touchdowns, so Louisville will have its hands full trying to slow a confident offense on the road. The Cardinals do get a boost on the defensive side with Koen Entringer back from injury, and his return gives Louisville at least one familiar piece to lean on as it tries to avoid letting another winnable opportunity slip away. Pat Kelsey Now Has A New Chance To Land Louisvilles Top Guard

King Gibsons commitment to LSU gave Louisville an early hit in the 2027 recruiting race, but it also sharpened the Cardinals next move. Pat Kelsey and his staff have already poured real effort into building relationships with another elite guard in the class, Reese Alston, and the pursuit figures to matter even more now that one of the top backcourt names on the board is off to Baton Rouge.

Alston brings the kind of profile Louisville wants to keep circling back to in its next wave of recruiting, and LSU is again standing in the way. For Kelsey, the challenge is familiar: stay aggressive, keep the Cardinals in the conversation, and try to turn a promising push into a win before the competition closes the door. [Read more 🡒]
