In a season where Louisville often found themselves on the wrong side of close games, they finally flipped the script at the perfect moment, punching their ticket to the Sweet Sixteen with a thrilling victory.
Elif Istanbulluoglu was a force to be reckoned with, notching a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Tajianna Roberts matched her with 18 points and added 4 assists, while Laura Ziegler made her presence felt on both ends, contributing 12 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots.
Coach Walz couldn't hide his pride, saying, “What a basketball game by Taj, E, and Laura. Just really proud of them.
And then Mac, [Mackenly Randolph] with seven offensive boards again. Just an unbelievable effort.
Excited to still be playing with this group.”
Reflecting on her journey after her final game in the Yum Center, Laura Ziegler shared, “Transferring is difficult; you want to get it right. I had one last time, and I focused on finding the perfect match.
I ended up in the right place in my last year. I’ve learned and grown so much.
I’m extremely grateful for all my four years, but this year has been amazing.”
Coach Walz spoke about the impact of having Laura as a transfer, acknowledging the ups and downs: “We’re all grateful. It’s not always just smiles and hugs.
Sometimes you have to challenge them, and Laura, I can’t say she wanted me to all the time, but we both have grown a ton. I respect her immensely, not just for how she plays but for the work she’s put in and the growth she’s made.
She’s going to have a career opportunity after this.”
For Tajianna Roberts, reaching the Sweet Sixteen was a first, and she expressed her excitement: “I think this is my first time going to the Sweet 16, all of our first times. The feeling of still dancing, still playing basketball, it’s a great feeling. It’s so special, and doing it in front of such a great fan base was amazing.”
Louisville’s resilience and determination have paid off, and their journey continues, fueled by a blend of talent, hard work, and the unwavering support of their fans.
