Louisville’s offseason already looks loaded, but there may still be one more frontcourt name worth watching.
Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals made it clear where their biggest problem sat after last season: size, strength and physicality inside. Louisville went after that area hard, landing the No. 1 overall transfer and top center Flory Bidunga, then adding 4-star forward Alvaro Folgueiras, 7-foot-5 Gabe Dynes and 5-star 2026 recruit Obinna Ekezie Jr. With 12 players on the roster right now, the Cardinals appear to be in much better shape up front than they were a year ago.
Even so, one more addition could still make sense, and Michigan State transfer Jaxon Kohler is the name starting to surface.
A Colorado judge granted a preliminary injunction to seniors from the 2022 class, which opened the door for last year’s graduation class to have another year of eligibility. That has put Kohler back in play, and he’s drawing plenty of attention. Kentucky, Kansas and BYU are all showing interest, but Louisville could have a lane if it wants more depth at power forward.
Kohler brings a blend Louisville could use. At 6-foot-8 and 250 pounds, he rebounds at a high level, and he also has enough shooting touch to stretch the floor. That matters for a Cardinals team hoping Folgueiras and Ekezie can become consistent from deep and help create more spacing.
His numbers last season with the Spartans back up the profile. Kohler averaged 12.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field. From outside, he knocked down 58 3-pointers at a 38.9 percent clip.
Louisville’s need here isn’t urgent, but Kohler would add another proven option at the four and raise the ceiling of an already improved roster. There has not been any official report that Louisville has reached out to him, and the Cardinals were clearly all-in on Milan Momcilovic before. Kohler doesn’t shoot like Momcilovic, but he does bring elite rebounding and enough perimeter threat to matter.
It may not be the most likely move, but if Louisville is going to target one returning college basketball player for another frontcourt boost, Kohler sits at the top of the list.
