Louisville Star Clev Lubin Sends Clear Message

Louisville's star defensive lineman Clev Lubin returns, focused on honing his skills and leading the team to new heights.

As spring practice kicks off at Louisville, senior defensive lineman Clev Lubin is laser-focused on elevating his game. Lubin's decision to return for a final season wasn't a given. After a standout 2025 season, where he ranked 25th nationally and fourth in the ACC with 8.5 sacks, alongside 13.5 tackles for loss, Lubin faced the choice of jumping to the NFL or returning to college ball.

"It was a tough decision, especially with the NFL on the horizon," Lubin shared after a recent practice. "That's the dream, right? But I saw coming back as another chance to show who I am as a player and leader, and to refine my skills."

Lubin's mindset is all about growth. "There's always room for improvement," he said.

"Every day is a competition, whether it's against teammates, players at other schools, or guys in the NFL. I want to take my game to the next level and compete at a standard I've set for myself."

Returning to Louisville was an exciting choice for Lubin. "I wanted to finish strong here," he explained.

"Putting another solid year on tape helps the team and lets me chase my goals. I aim to be one of the best players in the country and elevate my teammates to be one of the best teams."

Lubin, who transferred from Coastal Carolina before the 2025 season, will now work under co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach Mark Ivey. Ivey, a seasoned coach, has been with the Louisville linebackers for the past three seasons.

"Coach Ivey brings energy," Lubin remarked. "He's a character, and that clip of him being lifted in the bowl game two years ago shows his spirit. That's the vibe we need in the D-line room-high energy, aggression, setting the tone for the defense."

Ivey has high praise for Lubin's talent and leadership. "Clev is a standout player, but it's his leadership that sets him apart," Ivey noted.

"Even when I wasn't coaching the D-line, I'd rely on him to emphasize key points. He's got emotional energy and commitment that lifts the whole team."

Ivey values Lubin's influence. "When he speaks, it resonates more because it's coming from a player.

Coaches are expected to lead, but when a player steps up, it carries more weight. Clev's willingness to hold his teammates accountable is invaluable."

Lubin's return sets the stage for an exciting season at Louisville, with his leadership and talent poised to make a significant impact.
