Louisville’s offensive line came out of Saturday’s win over SMU with a strong case for being the engine of the day. The Cardinals piled up 265 yards on the ground and kept the Mustangs from recording a sack, and that front group is carrying that momentum into the week ahead.
On Monday, Cason Henry took a step back from the stat line and focused on the bigger picture: what Louisville thinks it can become. The offensive lineman said the standard inside the program is simple - show up, work, and bring the same edge every day that the team brings on game day.
"I think that we can be as good as we want to be," Henry said. "I know it's cliche, but the guys come in every day ready to work.
This is an extremely disciplined football team. We're excited to come in the building every day and work with each other.
We attack practice with the same mentality as we attack a game. And I think that a group like that, stays healthy, wants to play together, really enjoys the game of football, attacks practice like it's a game, will, I mean, go as high as we can.
I mean, there's really no limit to how good this team can be."
One of the biggest developments for Louisville’s line Saturday was the return of Anwar O'neal, who rejoined the active lineup after a lengthy rehab stint. His presence gave the Cardinals their projected first-team offensive line on the field together for the first time this season.
Henry said the group was glad to have him back and liked what it saw from O'neal right away.
"It's great to have my guy Anwar back," Henry said. "I'm happy for him to come back from all the rehab stuff that he need to go through.
Really happy to see him get out there on the field. I thought that he played really, really well for not playing football for a long time.
He came back with as much skill and as much energy as he's ever had. And I thought we meshed really, really well together, after not a lot of time together because obviously he came back and he was immediately playing.
"I thought we played well, all things considered, and we'll continue to get better as a group with him out there. Then Lance, back at center, and everybody in the rotation, everything like that. So it's great to have him back."
Now Louisville turns its attention to Wake Forest with the same approach Henry described: keep the line humming, keep the group together, and keep building from one week to the next.

Louisvilles win over SMU moved the Cardinals to 2-1 and, just as importantly, kept the door wide open for a season that suddenly looks bigger than simply piling up a respectable record. ESPN Analytics now sees a favorable road ahead, with Louisville carrying a strong chance to reach the ACC Championship Game if it keeps taking care of business in conference play.
The path is manageable enough that the Cardinals can start dreaming beyond 10 wins, especially with the most demanding tests still to come against Kentucky and Pitt. If Louisville keeps stacking victories the way it has early on, an 11-1 finish is in play, and so is a first College Football Playoff appearance, which is a place this program has rarely had reason to picture this clearly this early.
