Reese Alston’s recruitment is beginning to sharpen, and Louisville remains right in the middle of it.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound point guard from Houston (TX) Second Baptist is a major target for the Cardinals in the 2027 class, and with the July live period approaching, things are starting to take shape. Louisville assistant Ronnie Hamilton has been the primary contact from the staff, and Alston said the connection is still strong.
" It's really great," Alston said. "Just continuing to build the relationship is the main thing, and staying in contact.
He's really a great guy who understands the game. He's someone who wants to have a relationship outside of basketball."
Louisville is one of just two programs to bring Alston in for an official visit. He was on campus for the Cardinals’ Jan. 10 win over Boston College, and that trip clearly left an impression.
"It was really the community and how active everyone was, from the fans to the trainers," Alston said of what stood out. "I see myself fitting in well.
They've had a great point guard before [in Mikel Brown ] and utilized him. That's really the main thing."
He’s also talking with his parents about possibly getting back to campus for another visit or a game, though for now he’s still sorting through the process and trying to read each school’s level of interest.
"It's going well," Alston said. "I'm just trying to dissect every school and see who really wants me at their program."
Louisville isn’t alone in the picture. Purdue is the only other school Alston has officially visited, and he’s also taken an unofficial trip to Kentucky. Still, he said no program is separating itself in terms of sheer volume of contact.
"Just whenever I feel the time is right," Alston said of a commitment. "[Factors include] the coach, how good the coaches are, and the history that the coach has. That's the main thing."
Alston is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 4 point guard and the No. 11 overall player in the 2027 class. The 247Sports Composite places him at No. 3 among point guards and No. 9 overall.
For his part, Alston said his summer has been about proving he can keep winning, keep elevating the people around him, and keep doing the little things that matter.
"This summer, I've shown that I can continue to win, continue to help my teammates grow, and continue to be a team player," Alston said.
