Louisville Lands Major Edge in Race for Top 2027 In-State Star

Louisville's pursuit of elite in-state talent continues as the program positions itself strongly in the race for standout 4-star receiver Cam Wade.

Louisville Football Makes Final Six for 4-Star WR Cam Wade, a Game-Changing Kentucky Talent

As Louisville wraps up its regular season, the Cardinals just got a major boost on the recruiting trail. One of the top wide receivers in the 2027 class, Cam Wade, has narrowed his list of schools to six - and Louisville is right in the thick of it.

Wade, a 4-star prospect and consensus top-250 national recruit, is one of the most coveted players in the state of Kentucky. The Paducah Tilghman standout has drawn offers from some of college football’s biggest names, including Penn State, Ole Miss, Indiana, and Florida State. But over the weekend, he trimmed his list, and now it’s Louisville, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, and North Carolina left standing.

For head coach Jeff Brohm and recruiting ace Vince Marrow, this is another sign that their tandem is working - and working well. The Cardinals already made a statement with their 2026 class, locking down six of the top 11 players in Kentucky, including five of the top eight. Now they’re looking to replicate that success in 2027, and Wade could be a cornerstone piece.

At 5-foot-11 and 160 pounds, Wade isn’t just a receiver - he’s a weapon. This past season, he was a force on both sides of the ball.

Offensively, he hauled in 53 catches for 821 yards and 14 touchdowns, showing off his speed, hands, and ability to make plays after the catch. But his impact didn’t stop there.

On defense, he added 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two pick-sixes. Oh, and he returned two punts for touchdowns too.

Simply put, Wade is electric.

He’s currently ranked as high as No. 167 nationally, the No. 27 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 3 overall player in Kentucky. That kind of ranking - paired with the production and versatility he’s shown - makes him one of the most sought-after recruits in the region.

Wade made an unofficial visit to Louisville earlier this year, attending the Cardinals’ Week 1 matchup against Eastern Kentucky. That early connection could prove crucial as Louisville battles SEC powerhouses like LSU and Tennessee for his commitment.

Louisville’s recruiting momentum under Brohm and Marrow has been real, especially within state lines. They’ve made it clear that keeping Kentucky’s best talent at home is a top priority - and they’ve got the track record to back it up. Landing Cam Wade would be another statement, not just about their ability to recruit, but about the kind of explosive playmakers they’re building around for the future.

This one’s far from over, but Louisville is right where it wants to be: in the final mix for one of the most dynamic athletes in the 2027 class.
