Louisville is still in the hunt for one of the biggest names in the Class of 2027.
Phoenix center Darius Wabbington, a five-star prospect, trimmed his list to six schools on Tuesday and kept the Cardinals in the mix. Arizona, Kentucky, Indiana, North Carolina and Texas joined Louisville on the list, while Wabbington’s earlier offer sheet also included Alabama, Baylor, Purdue, USC and more.
The 6-foot-11, 245-pound big man didn’t just narrow things down. He also lined up his first three official visits, and Louisville will get the first crack at him on Sept.

Wabbington’s recruiting stock is as high as it gets. He is a five-star prospect from two of the three major services, with On3/Rivals ranking him as the No. 1 center.
247Sports lists him as the No. 13 overall prospect, and the 247Sports Composite pegs him as the No. 2 center behind only Scottsdale (Ariz.) Bella Vista Prep’s Paul Osaruyi and the 15th-ranked player in the 2027 class.
The numbers back up the buzz. In 30 MaxPreps-tracked games as a junior at Sunnyslope, Wabbington posted 17.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 blocks and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor. He helped power the Vikings to a 28-2 record, an AIA State Championship and a No. 5 national ranking from MaxPreps.
He has also carried that production onto the summer circuit. With Compton Magic on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, Wabbington is averaging 13.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. He also played for USA Basketball in the 2026 FIBA U18 Men's AmeriCup, where he helped the team win a silver medal while averaging 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals across five games.
Louisville’s 2027 class currently includes one commitment, from Louisville (Ky.) Fairdale forward Ferlandes Wright.
The Cardinals also had commitments from Orlando (Fla.) Southeastern Prep center Obinna Ekezie Jr. and Hickory (N.C.)
Moravian Prep point guard Isac Ellis, but both reclassified to the Class of 2026 so they could suit up this fall.
