Louisville got a major development on the basketball front, and it came with Seth Trimble. The UNC transfer, who has been working through a fight for his fifth year of eligibility under the “five-for-five rule,” was ruled ineligible at the last hearing, but Judge Brian Edwards of the Jefferson County Circuit Court has now granted him eligibility.
That gives Trimble immediate eligibility for now, even if the process is not fully settled yet. The situation is still alive, but at this point Louisville has him available, and he is expected to be the Cardinals’ starting shooting guard. He is also set to be in the mix for Louisville’s preseason game against Kansas on Wednesday.
Another former Cardinal making noise is Ryan Conwell, who has turned his preseason into a strong audition. The former Louisville guard, drafted No. 37 overall before being traded to the Miami Heat, just finished with 21 points against the Magic in his final preseason game.
Conwell paced Miami in scoring and added seven assists to go with a sharp shooting line: 3-of-7 from three-point range and 9-of-17 from the field. He heads into the NBA season after putting together a performance that should have the Heat taking a hard look at his minutes.
On the football side, Louisville’s 34-26 win over Syracuse brought another big night from Lincoln Kienholz. The 4-star transfer from Ohio State helped deliver the Cardinals their fourth win, and he made history along the way.
Kienholz broke free for an 82-yard rushing touchdown, the longest rushing score by a Louisville quarterback in program history. He finished with 310 passing yards and one passing touchdown, along with two rushing touchdowns, and continues to look like one of the ACC’s most dangerous quarterbacks as Louisville chases a run to the ACC Championship Game.

Jeff Brohm May Have Just Saved Louisvilles Season Path
Louisvilles season has taken a better turn over the past two weeks, and the difference has been hard to miss. After early defensive issues, especially against the pass, Jeff Brohm got more directly involved on that side of the ball and the Cards have responded with two straight wins, along with a much more disruptive pass rush and a defense that has kept opponents below their usual scoring pace.
With a week off in hand, the next stretch now looms large over the final five regular-season games. The offense, led by quarterback Lincoln Kienholz, has done its part and given Louisville a stable foundation, but the real question is whether the defensive fixes that steadied the last two games can hold up once the schedule starts demanding answers again. Pat Kelseys New-Look Louisville Team Faces An Early Contender Test
Pat Kelseys first Louisville team is getting thrown right into the fire, with a preseason matchup against Kansas serving as an early measuring stick for a roster that looks nothing like last years. The Cardinals enter the season ranked No. 11 in the first AP Poll and have overhauled the lineup with 11 new players, giving Kelsey plenty to sort out before the games start counting for real.
The bigger picture is just as demanding, because Louisville is not easing into anything. The schedule is loaded with ranked opponents, which will quickly show whether this group can come together fast enough to compete at the level Kelsey is aiming for. For a team with Final Four ambitions, the first real test comes early, and it should say plenty about how far this rebuild can go. [Read more 🡒]
Louisvilles Syracuse Win Left One Big Question About This Team
Louisvilles 34-26 road win at Syracuse on Oct. 17 showed the kind of resolve Jeff Brohm has been looking for all season. After falling behind 10-0 early, the Cardinals leaned on a defense that forced three takeaways and turned up the pass rush with a season-high five sacks, while Lincoln Kienholz kept the offense moving through the air and on the ground.
Brian Brohm handling play-calling duties for the second straight week was another notable wrinkle, especially with the offense finding answers in a game it had to come back to win. Kienholzs performance, including his 82-yard rushing touchdown, gave Louisville a big late-season boost, but it also left a larger question hanging over the program as the Cardinals try to figure out what this version of the offense should look like moving forward.
