Louisville’s recruiting momentum is spilling into the 2028 class, and the latest move puts the Cardinals in the mix for one of the biggest prizes in the country.
Pat Kelsey and Louisville have extended an offer to Yann Kamagate, the unanimous 5-star center who has climbed all the way to the top tier of the 2028 rankings. Kamagate now holds more than 24 offers, with heavy hitters like Duke, Houston, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan, Texas and others already in the chase.
Kelsey has already been tracking Kamagate closely. He was at a game for the center earlier this summer at the Section 7 basketball event in Mesa, Arizona, and also saw him at multiple other events, including the NBAPA Top 100.
What makes Kamagate’s rise stand out is how fast it happened. He was unranked at one point, and now he’s a consensus 5-star and a consensus top-five recruit in the 2028 cycle. In some rankings, he sits as high as No. 2 overall and No. 1 among centers.
Louisville has been active in the paint lately, too. The Cardinals landed 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. in the 2026 recruiting class and were among the final six for Darius Wabbington, the No. 2 center in the 2027 class.
For now, Louisville is simply the latest elite program to jump into a crowded race. Duke, Arizona and BYU already have “warm” next to their names on 247 Sports, but with the process still early, Kelsey and the Cardinals have time to keep pushing.
