Louisville’s push in the 2027 class picked up real steam Thursday, and the latest development puts the Cardinals squarely in the middle of a heavyweight recruiting fight.
Pat Kelsey and Louisville landed an official visit from Asa Montgomery, a top-20 prospect and 4-star small forward from Georgia. It’s a notable win for a program already working hard to build momentum with elite 2027 talent.
Montgomery’s visit list is stacked. Louisville is one of eight schools set to host him, joining LSU, Florida, UConn, Providence, North Carolina, Duke and Arizona.
According to Sam Kayser, the Cardinals are the final stop on the schedule, with Montgomery set to be in Louisville on Oct. 30.
His tour begins next weekend at LSU on Aug. 28, and the rest of the itinerary runs through the fall: Florida on Sept. 4, UConn on Sept.
11, Providence on Sept. 18, North Carolina on Sept.
25, Duke on Oct. 2 and Arizona on Oct. 16 before Louisville closes it out.

Montgomery checks in at 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, and his stock has risen fast. He’s currently rated as high as No. 16 overall, No. 6 among small forwards and No. 2 in Georgia. A gold medal run with Team USA at the U17 World Cup helped boost that profile, and so did his EYCL season, where he put up 24.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks per game.
The offers have piled up, too. Montgomery has collected more than 27, and Louisville now finds itself in the thick of the race.
That battle comes as Kelsey continues to stack the board in 2027. Earlier this month, Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports projected the Cardinals to land 5-star point guard Reese Alston. Before that, Louisville had already made the cut for 5-star center Darius Wabbington’s final six and slipped into the final eight for No. 3 overall recruit Demarcus Henry.
The Cardinals already have one 4-star commitment in Ferlandes Wright, and now they’re chasing another major addition. Montgomery gives them exactly the kind of target that can keep the momentum rolling.
