Pat Kelsey’s roster makeover at Louisville keeps drawing attention, and the latest boost came with the addition of former North Carolina guard Seth Trimble. The Cardinals had already done a massive amount of work this offseason, adding 10 players and bringing in seven transfers, but Trimble gives the backcourt another jolt after coming off his best collegiate season. He’s expected to step in as an immediate starter and a major piece for Kelsey.
That kind of move has pushed Louisville into a different kind of conversation. Fox Sports college basketball analyst Aaron Torres has been high on the Cardinals throughout the offseason, and after the Trimble addition, he raised the ceiling even more.
Torres doesn’t just see Louisville as a top-10 team. He believes the Cardinals have a real argument to be viewed among the nation’s elite.
“Where you been? I think Seth Trimble puts them over the top.
This has been a darn good roster from the beginning,” stated Torres. “I would put Louisville right in the conversation as the No. 4 or No. 5 team in the country coming into the year.”
Torres pointed to the top of the sport as he framed the debate, naming Florida, Illinois, and Duke as his top three before noting that several teams are fighting for the next spots. Louisville, in his view, belongs in that group.
He also laid out why the roster has so much appeal beyond Trimble. Torres highlighted a physical guard, Flory Bidunga as an elite rim protector, Knox as an athletic wing, Jackson Shelstad as a star point guard, Adrian Wooley and De'Shayne Montgomery for backcourt depth, five-star recruit Obinna Ekezie Jr., and Alvaro Folgueiras as a stretch four.
Louisville’s momentum has been backed up by the numbers, too. The Cardinals have the seventh-highest odds to win the 2027 National Title, and with the roster Kelsey has assembled, Torres made it clear he’s buying in on what Louisville can be this season.

Florida State has also entered the picture in a major way, adding another ACC program to the list of serious suitors. Kamissokos recruitment is still early, but the Seminoles appear to have the momentum right now, which puts Louisville in a familiar position of having to keep pressing while the pecking order settles. Louisville enters the season with real national attention attached to it, a notable shift for a program that has spent the offseason showing up in multiple preseason rankings.
