Louisville Is Making One Local 4-Star Guard A Real Priority

Louisville's basketball recruitment heats up as they set their sights on local 4-star guard Josh Lindsay during his unofficial visit.

Louisville is making a real push for one of its own, and Josh Lindsay keeps sitting right at the center of it.

Pat Kelsey has already helped put the Cardinals on the map with elite recruiting wins, landing multiple five-stars since taking over, including Mikel Brown Jr., the program’s second-highest-rated commit, and Obinna Ekezie Jr., the third-highest-rated commit. Now Louisville’s attention has shifted toward the 2027 and 2028 classes, and Lindsay is one of the names drawing the most buzz.

The Cardinals have been linked to plenty of top prospects in the 2027 cycle, including No. 1 overall recruit CJ Rosser and DeMarcus Henry. But in 2028, Louisville’s focus has landed on a familiar face for local fans: the Louisville native and St. Xavier standout who keeps showing up on campus.

Lindsay was back on an unofficial visit to Louisville this weekend, continuing a relationship that has already included multiple trips to see the Cardinals. That list also includes Louisville’s exhibition game against Kansas this past season.

The 6-foot-1 guard has become a must-watch name for Kelsey’s staff in the 2028 class, and part of the appeal is obvious. Lindsay has built a reputation for his explosive athleticism and has gone viral for the way he gets above the rim and finishes with authority.

Recruiting interest has only grown since the contact period opened. Lindsay has heard from North Carolina, Auburn, Missouri, USC, Iowa, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Utah, Boston College, Xavier, and Western Kentucky. He’s also already picked up more than 10 offers, including Auburn, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, and others.

At St. Xavier, Lindsay is coming off a season where he averaged 14.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He’s also continued to show off that burst on the summer circuit, including at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam with Mokan Elite, where his hops again turned heads.

The 6-foot-2 guard is a consensus 4-star recruit in the 2028 class, with rankings as high as No. 35 overall and No. 5 among combo guards. He’s also the unanimous No. 1 overall recruit in Kentucky.

Louisville is still early in the process, but the message is clear: the Cardinals want to keep the local standout close, and they’re already making noise about it as Lindsay’s junior season approaches. The program is also showing strong interest in bringing him back for another unofficial visit and the Florida State game on Friday night.

Florida State had Louisville on its heels early, building a 14-0 lead and lining up for a fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line with a chance to keep the pressure on. Instead, a swing pass lost yardage, the Cardinals escaped the moment, and the game flipped almost immediately.

On the very next play, Isaac Brown broke free for a 97-yard touchdown and Louisville never looked back, rolling to a 44-20 win behind a 35-point unanswered surge. Louisville Just Delivered The Kind Of Win That Changes Everything

Louisvilles latest trip to Florida State was the sort of game that can reset a season. The Cardinals stared down a 21-0 deficit, then flipped the whole afternoon with a 35-14 comeback built on a revived defense and a ground game that finally started to look like the identity Brian Brohm has been pushing since taking over playcalling duties.

The signature moment came on Isaac Browns record-breaking 97-yard rush, a play that captured how sharply the momentum swung once Louisville settled in. After the early scramble, the Cardinals played with more balance and force on both sides of the ball, turning a rough start into a win that felt bigger than one result and more like a turning point.
