Louisville’s new-look roster is already drawing attention, and FanSided’s latest ACC rankings only sharpen the buzz around what Pat Kelsey has built.
The Cardinals open their season one week from now against Kansas in another preseason test, and the anticipation around this group is easy to understand. Louisville brought in 11 players this offseason, with eight coming through the Transfer Portal and three from the 2026 recruiting class, giving the Cardinals one of the country’s priciest and most talented rosters.
That makeover showed up in Rodney Knuppel’s top 25 ACC players list, where Louisville placed three players inside the conference’s top 14. Duke may have the larger overall presence in the rankings, but Louisville has enough high-end talent to make the Blue Devils pay attention.
At the top of Louisville’s group sits Flory Bidunga, the Cardinals’ biggest addition and the No. 3 player in the ACC. The 5-star transfer and Preseason All-ACC First Team center trails only Virginia’s Thijs De Ridder and Duke’s John Blackwell in Knuppel’s ranking.
"Louisville gains an established defensive anchor who can influence games without requiring a steady supply of offensive touches. His rebounding and rim protection should make the Cardinals considerably more difficult to attack inside. Bidunga has a legitimate opportunity to become the ACC's best defensive player."
Rodney Knuppel
After Bidunga, Louisville’s backcourt comes into focus with Jackson Shelstad and Seth Trimble. Shelstad, the Oregon transfer, checks in at No. 9, while Trimble lands at No.
- That gives the Cardinals a potential guard duo that could rank among the ACC’s best, even if Trimble’s eligibility remains a question.
If he is cleared, Louisville suddenly has another major weapon to pair with Shelstad.
"Louisville has assembled a talented collection of transfers, but somebody must establish defensive intensity and dependable decision-making. Trimble can fill that role while providing additional scoring when needed. His experience against ACC opponents should make the transition considerably easier."
Rodney Knuppel
The ACC race is shaping up around Duke, Virginia, and Louisville, and the rankings make that plain. Virginia and Louisville each placed three players in the top 25, while Duke had five.
That still leaves Louisville with a real path to make things interesting. Kelsey’s offseason additions gave the Cardinals a strong foundation, and the talent beneath that top trio only adds to the case, including former 5-star Karter Knox and 7-foot-2 5-star freshman Obinna Ekezie Jr.
The Cardinals are still chasing their first ACC title, and this group has the look of a team that can at least push the conversation. Louisville and Duke will meet at KFC Yum! Center on Feb. 27 at 9 p.m. local time.

Louisville Fans Finally Get The Mikel Brown Jr. Moment They've Waited For
Mikel Brown Jr. spent his first pro summer giving Louisville fans a glimpse of the player they watched take over the Cardinals' offense, and now the spotlight is about to tighten. Selected sixth overall by the Brooklyn Nets in the 2026 NBA Draft, Brown has already begun turning heads in early NBA action, and his preseason debut is set to come against the Miami Heat.
That matchup adds a little extra juice for Louisville followers because Ryan Conwell, Brown's former backcourt running mate and another of the Cardinals' leading scorers from the 2025-26 season, is with Miami now. It is the kind of early-career crossover that can make a new chapter feel even more connected to the one that came before, and it gives Louisville fans a reason to keep one eye on the preseason schedule. Louisville's Syracuse Prep Starts With One Huge Quarterback Question
Louisvilles trip to Syracuse comes with the usual defensive homework, but the biggest item on the checklist is still the Oranges quarterback situation. Steve Angeli opened the season as the starter, but injuries and uneven play have pushed Syracuse into a carousel at the position, with Malachi Nelson, Amari Odom and Danny Lauter all getting snaps as the staff tries to keep the offense moving.
The uncertainty under center has made the rest of the roster even more important, especially a run game built around Tylik Hill and a receiving group topped by Umari Hatcher, who leads the ACC in touchdowns. For Louisville, the challenge is simple enough to say and harder to solve: prepare for a Syracuse offense that can lean on multiple looks, while still waiting to see which quarterback actually gets the first real shot to settle things down. Florida State Faces A Telling Rivalry Test At Miami
Florida State heads into a charged Atlantic Coast Conference matchup at Miami coming off a rough stretch, and the timing does not make things any easier. The Seminoles are trying to stop the slide while also dealing with the dismissal of freshman cornerback Chuck Kennon for conduct detrimental to the team, a move that adds another layer of turbulence to a roster already looking for answers.
Miami, meanwhile, comes in rested after a bye week and expects some key defensive players back in time for the rivalry test. Both teams lean on strong rushing attacks, which should make the line of scrimmage a focal point in a game that already carries plenty of weight for the ACC race and the pride that comes with a rivalry stage.
