Louisville Is Closing In On A Huge Pat Kelsey Recruiting Test

As Louisville intensifies its recruitment efforts, the basketball program edges closer to securing top 2027 prospect DeMarcus Henry, who is eyeing a commitment on his birthday later this month.

Louisville’s push for DeMarcus Henry may be nearing a finish line.

The 5-star forward has become one of Pat Kelsey’s biggest priorities in the 2027 class, and now there’s finally a target date attached to his decision. According to On3 Sports’ Jamie Shaw, Henry said, “I’ll probably want to commit on my birthday, October 30,” and added, “That’s probably when I’m going to commit.

UNC, Louisville, UConn, Arkansas, Ohio State, Kentucky.

Henry has already narrowed his list to eight schools, with Louisville in the mix alongside UConn, Kansas, Arkansas, North Carolina, BYU, Ohio State and Kentucky. Louisville got an early look in September when it hosted him for an official visit, and Kelsey followed that up with a trip to see Henry shortly after in an effort to keep building the relationship.

That attention matters because Louisville has been working hard to stay in the hunt for one of the class’s premier names. Henry is the unanimous No. 1 small forward in the 2027 recruiting class and a unanimous top-five prospect overall. He’s ranked as high as No. 2 nationally.

There’s still competition to sort through. Joe Tipton believes Arkansas has a slight edge, with Louisville sitting just behind the Razorbacks. Rivals’ prediction meter currently gives Kentucky the lead at 22.4 percent, while Louisville is next at 19.6 percent.

For now, the Cardinals are firmly in the race, and the timeline is tightening. Henry, who stands 6-foot-7, averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam this summer.
