Louisville’s recruiting momentum in the 2027 class is about to get a real test, and it comes with one of the biggest prizes in the cycle walking through campus.
Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals are hosting 5-star small forward DeMarcus Henry for an official visit today, giving Louisville a shot to separate itself from a crowded group of heavyweight suitors. Henry, one of the top targets on Louisville’s board, trimmed his list to eight schools after drawing more than 29 offers, and the Cardinals are battling North Carolina, BYU, Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio State, UConn, and Arkansas for his commitment.
The visit matters because Louisville has already built some real traction with elite 2027 talent. Kelsey has spent the summer pushing hard for 5-star point guards Reese Alston and Cayden Daughtry, with Louisville landing an official visit from Alston, making the No. 6 overall recruit’s final seven, and continuing to pursue Daughtry after earning a spot in his final 14. Henry, though, is the biggest name in the mix right now, and the Cardinals now get their chance to make a move.
Joe Tipton of On3 Sports reported the visit, and Henry’s profile backs up the buzz. ESPN has him as high as No. 2 nationally, while 247 Sports and Rivals both slot him at No. 3 overall and On3 Sports ranks him No.
- Across the board, he is the unanimous No. 1 small forward in the 2027 class.
At 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, Henry is coming off a strong junior season at Compass Prep. He earned All-Nike EYBL Scholastic Second Team honors and MaxPreps All-America Junior honorable mention after putting up 12.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. Over the summer with Vegas Elite at Nike EYBL Peach Jam, he elevated his production even more, averaging 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game while making the All-Second Team.
Louisville appears to have real momentum in this race, too. Rivals’ prediction meter gives the Cardinals a 41 percent chance to land Henry, ahead of Ohio State at 13 percent and BYU at 11 percent.
For Louisville, today is a chance to turn that early positioning into something more concrete. Kelsey has landed a 5-star recruit in two straight classes, and adding Henry would be another loud sign that the Cardinals are becoming one of the country’s premier recruiting powers.
