Louisville’s surge on the field is starting to spill into recruiting, and Jeff Brohm may be trying to turn that momentum into a major win off it.
The Cardinals already have 17 commitments in their 2027 class, but they’re clearly not finished. After hosting several recruits for their big game against SMU, Louisville is set to welcome another headliner this weekend: elite 4-star safety Tristin Hughes, a Kentucky commit the Cardinals are trying to pull across the border.
Hughes has been pledged to Kentucky since April 18 and took a visit to Lexington in June. Now, according to 247Sports’ Jacob Polacheck, he’s headed to Louisville for the Cardinals’ matchup with Wake Forest as he looks to “weigh his options.”

That kind of visit matters because Hughes is a coveted prospect. He picked up more than 25 offers, with Louisville, Auburn, BYU, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State and plenty of other major programs all in the mix.
Louisville has been aggressive in its 2027 recruiting push across several states, but Kentucky and Ohio have been especially important. Ten of the Cardinals’ 17 commitments already come from those two states, including four from Ohio. Hughes would give Louisville a fifth Ohio commitment and, if it happens, he’d be the program’s second 4-star pledge from that state.
The rankings reflect why Louisville wants him so badly. Rivals lists Hughes as the No. 177 player in the country and the No. 17 safety, while 247 Sports has him at No. 15 among ATH prospects. He’s also a top-10 player in Ohio, coming in at No. 9 in the state, two spots ahead of Louisville 4-star commit D'Angelo White.
As it stands, Louisville’s 2027 class already includes four 4-star commitments. Ja’Hyde Brown is the highest-rated of the group, checking in as high as No. 66 nationally, No. 11 among wide receivers, and No. 2 among Kentucky recruits.
If Brohm and Vince Marrow can pry Hughes away from Kentucky and Will Stein, it would be one of the biggest additions in the class. For now, Louisville has a major visitor on the way and a real chance to make a move.
