Louisville Gets A Timely Secondary Lift Before Florida State

With a challenging matchup against Florida State looming, Louisville eagerly anticipates the impact of Koen Entringer's return to bolster their struggling defense.

Louisville is getting a much-needed lift in the secondary just in time for Friday night.

As the Cardinals try to stop a two-game slide and dig out of an early 1-2 conference start, Pete Nakos reported that Koen Entringer is available and will return after missing the last two games. Louisville faces Florida State at L&N Stadium in Week 6, and the timing could not be better for a defense that has been leaking big plays.

The Cardinals have badly missed Entringer over the past two weeks. He sat out against Wake Forest, when Gio Lopez went 12-of-19 for 225 yards and a touchdown, and he was also out last week against NC State, when CJ Bailey put up a career night. Bailey finished 24-of-40 for 373 passing yards and two passing touchdowns as Louisville’s secondary struggled to contain him.

Entringer’s return gives Jeff Brohm a player who has already been productive this season. The Iowa transfer has 18 total tackles, including 10 solo, along with one pass deflection. Before arriving at Louisville, he posted a career year with the Hawkeyes, finishing with 73 tackles, four pass deflections and one forced fumble.

He came in as one of Louisville’s biggest defensive additions, and the last couple of games showed exactly why his presence matters. The Cardinals need cleaner play on the back end, and getting Entringer back should help.

The challenge comes fast. Florida State is coming off a 38-7 win over Virginia, a game in which Ashton Daniels ran for five touchdowns and 136 yards while also throwing for 183 yards. Louisville will have to be sharper defensively if it wants to slow that offense down.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. local time, and Louisville enters the game as a 3.5-point favorite.

Louisville Faces A Game Plan That Could Test Everything Saturday

Florida States zone read package has become a real point of attention heading into Saturday, especially after Ashton Daniels found success with it in recent weeks. The Seminoles leaned on that wrinkle against Virginia, and it gives this matchup another layer for Louisville to sort through as it prepares for an offense that can create stress in a hurry. For a Cardinals team looking to keep its own attack rolling, the key is understanding how quickly a seemingly ordinary run concept can turn into a problem if the defense loses discipline.

Louisvilles side of the equation is straightforward enough: the Cardinals have enough firepower to make opponents pay, but they also know this is the kind of game where one breakdown can change the tone fast. Even with the broader season outlook still unsettled, Saturday offers another chance for players to show they can rise above the teams struggles and make a case for bigger things ahead. The challenge is not just handling the run game, but proving Louisville can impose itself when a game plan is designed to poke at every weakness. [Read more 🡒]

Louisvilles Comeback Hopes Turned On A Brutal Fourth Quarter Swing

Louisville had enough flashes in its game against NC State to keep the comeback picture alive for a while, with Kaleb Beasleys interception and a few productive runs from Isaac Brown giving the Cardinals something to build on. The defensive takeaway helped swing momentum, and Louisvilles ground game showed it could still find cracks when the blocking held up.

Keyjuan Browns fumble and the protection issues on several snaps told a different part of the story, though, and those breakdowns kept Louisville from fully cashing in on its better moments. The Cardinals had stretches where the response looked there, but the details in pass protection and ball security left too much room for NC State to widen the gap. [Read more 🡒]

Louisville Enters A Must-Win Night With ACC Hopes On The Line

Louisville heads into Friday night knowing the margin for error has all but vanished. After back-to-back losses, the Cardinals are 2-3 and staring at a game against Florida State that feels less like a midseason test and more like an early survival check for whatever ACC title hopes remain.

The matchup brings its own complications, too, with both teams dealing with a long injury list and Louisville still trying to shake a history of trouble against the Seminoles. For a team already under pressure to steady itself, this is the kind of night where the record, the standings and the matchup history all seem to lean the same way at once. [Read more 🡒]
