Louisville football isn’t wasting any time when it comes to the 2027 recruiting class. As soon as February hit, the Cardinals hit the ground running - and the early returns are already turning heads. With commitments from versatile athlete Josiah Pouncy and defensive lineman Cornelius Tims III already in the bag, Louisville is now making a serious push for one of the top defensive backs in the region: 4-star cornerback Jordan Haskins.
Haskins, a Kentucky native and standout at Bryan Station High School, just trimmed his list of schools down to six, and Louisville made the cut. The Cardinals are now in a tight recruiting battle with Missouri, Illinois, Virginia Tech, Indiana, and in-state rival Kentucky. And while he had over 14 offers to choose from, the race is narrowing - and Louisville is in a strong spot.
According to On3 Sports, the Cardinals are currently the frontrunner to land Haskins’ commitment, with a 44.6% chance of securing the 4-star prospect. Missouri sits second at 26.4%, but the gap suggests Louisville has built a solid foundation in this recruitment. The Cardinals offered Haskins back in June 2024, shortly after Kentucky entered the mix in May, and since then, the tug-of-war between the two programs has only intensified.
Haskins is more than just a name on a list - he’s one of the most coveted defensive backs in the 2027 class. At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, he brings the kind of physicality and instincts that college coaches love in a modern corner.
He’s currently ranked as high as No. 5 among Kentucky prospects, No. 31 among cornerbacks nationally, and No. 290 overall. Some outlets even list him as a safety, further highlighting his versatility and value in the secondary.
His sophomore season in 2024 was a breakout campaign: 80 tackles and 4 interceptions - numbers that don’t just pop off the stat sheet, but also speak to his ability to make plays in both coverage and run support. That kind of production has made him a must-have for programs looking to shore up their defenses with homegrown talent.
Recently, Haskins has been active on the visit circuit, making stops at Missouri, Illinois, and Kentucky. Meanwhile, Louisville - with head coach Jeff Brohm and recruiting ace Vince Marrow leading the charge - has made its presence felt with a recent in-person visit. The message is clear: the Cardinals want to own the state of Kentucky on the recruiting trail, and they’re backing it up with action.
They’ve already landed the state’s top recruit in Allen Evans, a fellow defensive back who ranks No. 39 overall in the 2027 class and No. 5 among cornerbacks nationally. Pairing Evans with Haskins would give Louisville a potentially elite in-state secondary duo - a foundation that could anchor their defense for years to come.
And the momentum doesn’t stop there. Louisville has also secured commitments from three other 4-star prospects: quarterback Jack Sorgi, tight end D’Angelo White, and wide receiver Chuck Alexander Jr. That’s a strong offensive core to go along with a budding defensive backfield - the kind of balance that championship-caliber recruiting classes are built on.
If Louisville can close the deal with Haskins, it won’t just be another win on the recruiting trail - it’ll be a statement. One that says the Cardinals aren’t just building for the future; they’re shaping it.
