Signing Day Surprise: Benjamin Corhei Flips Back to Louisville, Bolstering Cardinals’ Trenches
Just when it looked like Benjamin Corhei was headed south for good, the 6-foot-4, 299-pound offensive lineman out of Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia, pulled a Signing Day stunner-flipping his commitment from South Florida back to Louisville.
This marks the second commitment to the Cardinals for Corhei, who originally pledged to Louisville after an official visit in June. That visit clearly made an impact, with Corhei citing the coaching staff’s energy and personal investment in his development as key factors in his initial decision.
Two weeks later, though, he pivoted to South Florida. Now, after months of back-and-forth, he’s officially part of Louisville’s incoming freshman class.
So, what brought Corhei back into the fold? It starts with relationships-specifically, the one he built with Louisville offensive line coach Richard Owens.
“I love the way Coach Owens coaches,” Corhei said. “And I know the program is continuing to rise.”
That connection, combined with what Corhei described as a strong academic environment and the city of Louisville’s networking opportunities, gave the Cardinals a second chance-and this time, they sealed the deal.
Corhei’s flip is more than just a feel-good recruiting win. It’s a big-time get for a program looking to solidify its future in the trenches.
At nearly 300 pounds with room to grow, Corhei brings size, athleticism, and upside to a position group that’s always in demand. He’s not just a body-he’s a prospect with real potential.
Ranked as the No. 118 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 138 overall player in Georgia, Corhei had no shortage of suitors. Power Five programs like Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, and Mississippi State were all in the mix during his recruitment, a testament to the kind of talent he brings to the table.
There’s also a deeper Louisville connection in play here. Terry Quinn, a former Cardinals player and father of current senior linebacker TJ Quinn, is part of the coaching staff at Lowndes. That tie may not have been the deciding factor, but it certainly didn’t hurt Louisville’s case in building trust and familiarity throughout the process.
For Louisville, Corhei’s commitment is another sign that the program is gaining traction on the recruiting trail. For Corhei, it’s a chance to be part of a rising program where he feels valued and supported-on and off the field.
Signing Day always brings a few twists and turns. This one just happened to swing Louisville’s way.
