Louisville Finally Got The Isaac Brown Game It Desperately Needed

Isaac Brown's record-breaking performance propelled the Louisville Cardinals to a pivotal win, keeping their ACC Title dreams alive.

Louisville needed a jolt Friday night, and Isaac Brown gave them one in a hurry.

After dropping back-to-back games, the Cardinals were staring at a rough start against Florida State. They fell behind 14-0 after the first quarter, and even after a missed Louisville field goal opened the door for the Seminoles to stretch the margin, the Cardinals slammed it shut. Florida State got four cracks inside Louisville’s five-yard line and never reached the end zone.

That stand changed everything.

From there, Louisville seized control and Brown turned the game into his personal showcase. The Cardinals rolled to a 44-20 win and moved to 3-3, with their preseason All-American finally delivering the kind of outing that had been missing early in the season.

Brown’s final line was eye-popping: 17 carries, 235 yards and two rushing touchdowns. With Keyjuan Brown out, Louisville needed its star back to carry more of the load, and he answered in a big way.

The biggest swing came in the second quarter, when Brown ripped off a 97-yard touchdown run - the longest play in Louisville football history. He wasn’t done there. To open the second half, Brown took a kickoff back 71 yards, setting up a Lincoln Kienholz touchdown that pushed Louisville ahead 28-14 in the third quarter.

It was the kind of night that looked nothing like Brown’s first few games. Through his first stretch of the season, he had 57 carries for 322 yards, numbers that fell well short of the standard he’d set before.

Last year he averaged 8.8 yards per carry, and he averaged 7.1 as a freshman. Entering Friday, he was sitting at 5.6 yards per carry this season.

His earlier stat lines told the story: 36 yards against Ole Miss, 61 against Villanova, 67 against SMU and 33 against Wake Forest. But the last two games have looked much more like the Brown Louisville expected, starting with a 125-yard effort on nine carries last week and followed by this career night against Florida State.

For Louisville, it was a must-have win. For Brown, it was the kind of performance that reminded everyone exactly what he can do. The Cardinals now turn to Syracuse next Saturday with their ACC title hopes still alive.

On the very next play, Isaac Brown broke free for a 97-yard touchdown and Louisville never looked back, rolling to a 44-20 win behind a 35-point unanswered surge. Louisville Is Closing In On A Huge Pat Kelsey Recruiting Test

Louisville has been busy on the 2027 trail, and one of the biggest names tied to Pat Kelseys staff is 5-star small forward DeMarcus Henry. The Cardinals have already hosted Henry on a visit, putting themselves squarely in the mix as they work to build momentum with a prospect who has drawn attention from several programs.

Henry is expected to make his college decision around his birthday on Oct. 30, giving Louisville a clear window to land a major early prize in the cycle.
