Louisville’s football team grabbed most of the weekend spotlight, and for good reason after the Cardinals’ 41-38 loss to No. 9 Ole Miss on a game-winning field goal. But while that one ended in heartbreak, several other Louisville programs delivered results worth noticing.
No. 6 Louisville volleyball turned in the weekend’s most emphatic win, sweeping No.
9 Texas 3-0 at the Broadway Block Party in Nashville on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals are now 5-1 with four ranked victories, a strong early-season resume built on another high-end road performance.
Louisville will play its first match of the season at the KFC Yum! Center on Wednesday against Missouri at 7:00 p.m.

Women’s soccer kept rolling, too. Louisville picked up its sixth straight win with a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst on Sunday at Dr.
Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when a cross from Karina Peat, intended for Amelia Swinarski, was deflected by a Mercyhurst player into the net for an own goal.
Less than a minute later, McKalie Ball scored her first career goal off an assist from Abby Cox to make it 2-0.
Nicole Jodoin added another in the 52nd minute, finishing off a feed from Peat for her second goal of the season. Mercyhurst got one back in the 67th minute, but Louisville closed it out for the 3-1 win.
The Cardinals, now 5-1, open ACC play against Pitt on Saturday, Sept. 12 at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
That match is set for 6 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra.

15 Louisville moved to 4-0 with a 4-0 road win over Michigan State on Sunday, marking the program’s best start since the 2023 season. Head coach Justine Sowry said, "Very pleased with the result and, more importantly, a number of pieces we had identified this weekend we needed to make progress on," and added, "It was a balanced weekend with everyone gaining valuable experience and contributing to our success."
The Cardinals got goals from four different players: Chloe Plumb, Lauren Masters, Tyler Everslage and Annabel Sep. Louisville now heads into the final leg of its four-game road trip next weekend in Evanston, IL, where it will face No.
1 Northwestern and No. 4 Iowa.

Lincoln Keinholzs first start for Louisville gave the Cardinals a real opening to assess where they stand at quarterback, and there was plenty to like in the way he settled in against Mississippi. Louisville Just Found A Quarterback Fans Can Dream On
Louisville came up just short in its Week 1 battle with Ole Miss, but the game still offered a glimpse of something the program has been searching for at quarterback. Lincoln Kienholz, the 4-star transfer from Ohio State making his first start, settled in quickly and gave the Cardinals a legitimate dual-threat presence, throwing for 307 yards while adding 69 on the ground.
The debut mattered because it showed Louisville more than survived a tough opening test against a ranked opponent, it found a passer who can tilt a game with both his arm and legs. Kienholzs production also put him in a rare category for the program, with the kind of early return that can change the feel around an offense even in a loss, and now the bigger question is how far that carryover can go once the schedule keeps moving. Louisville Just Took A Painful Recruiting Hit At Center
Louisvilles frontcourt recruiting board took a hit when five-star center Darius Wabbington backed away from the program, ending a run that had the Cardinals among his final six schools. Wabbington, one of the top centers in the country, had been scheduled to make an official visit on Sept. 11, but that stop is now off the calendar as Louisville loses ground in a pursuit that once looked promising.
The timing makes the setback sting a little more, because the Cardinals are still trying to stay active with another elite big man in Lewis Uvwo. Louisville has made a late push there, but Duke is currently out front, leaving the Cardinals searching for a way to recover from one miss while trying to keep another high-end option within reach.
