Mikel Brown Jr. is wasting no time making noise in NBA Summer League, and Brooklyn Nets fans have already gotten a taste of why the former Louisville guard carries so much buzz.
Brown, who was the No. 6 overall pick, delivered another strong showing in his second game of the summer, scoring 16 points in 19 minutes. He shot 6-of-11 from the field and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, backing up the kind of offensive reputation that followed him out of Louisville.
The sequence everyone will remember came against No. 7 overall pick Darius Acuff Jr. Brown spent the night going at Acuff, and one possession in particular showed the full range of his game. He opened with a nasty crossover, layered in a hesitation, then finished the play with a fade-away jumper after faking a spin move.
Brown’s ability to create his own shot was on full display, but that wasn’t the only flash moment from the game. He also picked Acuff off in transition and later came back with a mid-range jumper after a behind-the-back dribble into a step-back.
That kind of work is exactly why Brown’s offensive bag has people talking. At 6-foot-5, he can score off the dribble from the rim, the mid-range, or from deep, and he does it with a pace that never looks rushed. He stays composed, plays under control, and keeps finding ways to make difficult possessions look easy.
For Louisville fans, this summer has been a chance to watch several former Cardinals in the NBA Summer League, including Brown, Ryan Conwell, Isaac McKneely, and J’Vonne Hadley. Brown and Conwell were both drafted, and Brown became the first Cardinal taken in the first round since Donovan Mitchell went No. 13 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.
Brown’s lone season at Louisville was a big one. He averaged 18.2 points, 4.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game, and he finished as the second-highest commitment in program history.
If these first two summer games are any indication, Brooklyn fans are getting an early look at exactly why his ceiling has been so highly regarded.

Pat Kelsey Is Suddenly In The Mix For A Massive Guard Win
Louisvilles recruiting momentum under Pat Kelsey has started to show up in the 2027 class, where the Cardinals are working through a list of top guard targets and trying to make an early impression on one of the nations most coveted backcourt prospects. The latest buzz has centered on Cayden Daughtry, a highly regarded point guard who is in the middle of competition at the 2026 Nike EYBL Peach Jam while schools continue to circle.
Daughtry has said Louisville is making a strong push, and that matters because this is the kind of recruitment that can shape a class for years if the Cardinals stay in the conversation. Tennessee is also among the programs he is hearing from most, so Louisville is not alone in the chase, but the fact that the Cardinals are already in that mix gives Kelseys staff a real foothold as the process moves toward Daughtrys next list of schools. Louisville Commit Ferlandes Wright Is Hinting At Something Bigger
Ferlandes Wright has been doing more than just holding steady in Louisvilles 2027 class. The 2027 commit has been working to round out his game and become more consistent, and that showed up recently at the Peach Jam, where he flashed the kind of scoring touch that can make a recruit stand out in a crowded summer circuit. For a player still early in his development, those moments matter because they hint at a ceiling that could keep rising.
Louisville has clearly stayed engaged, too, with Pat Kelsey making time to see Wright in person and keep the connection warm. Wright, for his part, is paying attention to how the rest of the class comes together and remains invested in what the Cardinals are building around him. He is also planning to get back to campus again this fall, another sign that the relationship is still moving in the right direction. [Read more 🡒]
Louisville Fans Are Already Rallying Around This Hometown 4-Star
Louisvilles recruiting push in the 2027 and 2028 classes has already put the Cardinals in the mix for some of the countrys most sought-after backcourt talent, and that includes 5-star point guard Reese Alston and hometown 4-star combo guard Josh Lindsay. Pat Kelsey has been visible on the trail during the contact period, showing up at games and reaching out to multiple recruits, which has helped keep Louisville in the conversation as the staff tries to build around elite young guards.
Lindsay, a Louisville native, has become especially easy for fans to latch onto because the local connection gives the pursuit a different feel than a typical national recruiting battle. He has picked up multiple offers and drawn attention from a long list of programs, but the reaction around Louisville has been loud enough to suggest the Cardinals are not just another school in the chase. For a fan base looking for the next in-state star to rally around, this is the kind of recruitment that can gain momentum fast. [Read more 🡒]
