Louisville football is back in action, and the excitement is palpable as the Cardinals dive into spring practice. On Wednesday, fans gathered inside the Trager Center to catch a glimpse of the team's progress on their second day of work.
While the quarterback position often steals the spotlight, there's a significant buzz around the defensive unit this season. With a fresh batch of talent arriving through the transfer portal and high school recruits, the defense is undergoing a transformation. Leading this charge are the new co-defensive coordinators, Steve Ellis, who also takes the helm with the cornerbacks, and defensive line coach Mark Ivey.
Ellis, alongside a trio of cornerbacks, took some time to chat with the media after practice, sharing insights into the evolving defense.
"I'm definitely excited about it," Ellis expressed, reflecting on his expanded role. "But for me, it's just another stepping stone.
It keeps showing that we'll continue to get better. Coach Brohm has made a decision, and it's me and Coach Ivey's job to put the defense in the best situations to make plays and help those guys succeed.
We're excited about the opportunity."
Ellis highlighted the importance of having seasoned players like Tayon Holloway, as well as the impact of new additions from the transfer portal.
Defensive backs Santana Wilson, DJ Waller Jr., and Tayon Holloway also shared their thoughts with the media, offering a glimpse into the team's mindset and preparations.
For those eager to catch more of the Cardinals in action, upcoming open practices are scheduled, including one on Friday, March 27, at 3:45 p.m. And don't miss the annual Spring Game, set for Friday, April 17, at 6:00 p.m. It's shaping up to be an exciting season for Louisville football, with plenty of storylines to follow.
