After a tough loss to SMU earlier this week, the Louisville Cardinals bounced back in style on Saturday, taking down Georgia Tech 87-70 in front of a lively crowd of over 16,000 at the KFC Yum Center. The Cardinals dominated from the start, showcasing a balanced attack with four players hitting double figures.
With this win, Louisville improved to 20-7 overall and 9-5 in ACC play, solidifying their position as a formidable force in the conference.
Coach Pat Kelsey shared his thoughts on the game, noting the unique atmosphere despite it not being the final home game. "With it being a weekend, it just made sense for the families to be here," Kelsey explained.
He acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in ball control, but praised the team's defensive efforts. "We had moments where they went on runs, but after a timeout, the guys really stepped up.
We call it getting 'kills'-three stops in a row without allowing an offensive rebound-and we managed that nine times. Our deflections were strong, and we played actively with our hands."
A standout moment came when senior Spencer Legg checked in and nailed a three-pointer, adding a special touch to the night. "I've known Spencer for a long time," Kelsey said. "He's a unique, special kid, and seeing him hit that three was like the cherry on top."
The Cardinals' performance was a testament to their resilience and depth, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the season.
