Louisville football is making waves in the 2027 recruiting scene, diving headfirst into a high-stakes battle for the coveted 4-star tight end, George Lamons Jr. Head coach Jeff Brohm and recruiting ace Vince Marrow are pulling out all the stops to secure a top-tier class, and Lamons could be a game-changer.
The Cardinals have just made Lamons' shortlist, joining the ranks of SEC powerhouses Auburn, Alabama, and Florida. This is familiar territory for Louisville, having already outmaneuvered Alabama to snag 4-star cornerback Allen Evans. Brohm and Marrow are eyeing a top 10 recruiting class, and landing Lamons would be a significant feather in their cap.
Standing at 6'4" and weighing 220 pounds, Lamons hails from Quitman, GA, and is ranked as the No. 11 tight end in the 2027 class. His decision is highly anticipated, with Louisville fans eagerly watching as the Cardinals aim to outshine some of the biggest names in college football.
Louisville has already secured commitments from two tight ends in this class: 3-star Xavier Ratica and 4-star D'Angelo White. However, Lamons' higher ranking makes him a particularly attractive target. He stands as the No. 223 overall recruit, No. 10 among tight ends, and No. 26 in Georgia, having drawn over 26 offers from top programs like Texas A&M, Florida State, Georgia, and Miami.
The recruitment road is heating up with official visits lined up: Louisville on June 5, Florida on May 28, Auburn on June 12, and Alabama on June 19. According to On3 Sports, Auburn currently leads the pack with an 86.7 percent chance of securing Lamons' commitment, while Louisville, Florida, and Alabama trail with less than a 5 percent chance each.
Louisville's 2027 recruiting class is on track to make history, potentially surpassing their best-ever No. 23 rank from 2023. Currently sitting at No. 8, the addition of another top 300 recruit like Lamons would be monumental.
However, with Auburn as the frontrunner, Brohm and his team face a challenging path ahead. As it stands, Louisville boasts eight commitments in the 2027 cycle, including four 4-star recruits, setting the stage for an exciting recruiting showdown.
