Louisville’s running back room is getting the kind of national attention that usually comes with a unit already built to punish defenses.
CBS Sports put the Cardinals at No. 4 in its ranking of the nation’s top 10 running back rooms, and the reason is easy to see. Louisville brings back junior Isaac Brown, who CBS called the top returning explosive back in the country and said "has the ability to change a game at any moment."
Brown headlines a group that also includes redshirt junior Keyjuan Brown, Missouri transfer Marquise Davis, redshirt freshman Braxton Jennings and true freshman Lekhy Thompkins. Under running backs coach Chris Barclay, that mix of proven production and fresh talent has Louisville positioned for another big year on the ground as it heads toward the 2026 season.
Isaac Brown’s numbers from last fall back up the hype even though he missed time with an injury. He finished with 884 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 101 carries, good for 8.8 yards per carry. After winning 2024 ACC Rookie of the Year following his breakout freshman season, he enters 2026 as a Preseason All-American candidate, an All-ACC candidate and one of the leading names in the Doak Walker Award conversation.
Keyjuan Brown gives Louisville another dangerous piece. He was also listed among the nation’s top 10 explosive running backs after rushing for 704 yards and six touchdowns on 96 carries last season, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt. That kind of production gives the Cardinals a legitimate one-two punch before they even get to the rest of the room.
And Louisville’s depth is real. Davis arrives from Missouri after rushing for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 34 carries as a true freshman in 2025 before preserving his redshirt. A former four-star recruit, he brings Power Four experience and another back who can create chunk plays.
Jennings and Thompkins add even more to the mix. Jennings showed what he can do with an MVP performance against Kentucky, while both he and Thompkins stood out during spring practice.
Louisville is one of two ACC teams on CBS Sports’ list, joining Miami at No. 1. Texas Tech came in at No. 2, followed by Oregon, Louisville and USC to complete the top five.

Tai Bells recruitment is already starting to look like the kind Louisville fans know well: early, wide-ranging and built around a player who seems to understand what the Cardinals want to be. The highly regarded point guard in the 2028 class has been in touch with assistant coach Ronnie Hamilton since the contact period opened, and he has made it clear Louisville is a program he can see himself fitting into.
Bell has also drawn attention from a long list of other major programs, which is no surprise for a guard with his profile and national appeal. Still, Louisville has positioned itself well by getting in early and making the case that its system suits his game, and the next step will be getting him on campus once the live period wraps up.
