Louisville Awaits A Huge Pat Kelsey Recruiting Decision

Watch live as top-ranked prospect Reese Alston, whose father is a former NBA star, makes his much-anticipated college decision amid a fierce recruitment battle.

Louisville’s pursuit of Reese Alston is headed for a decision.

The 5-star point guard from Houston Second Baptist, ranked No. 9 in the 2027 class, will announce his college choice on Thursday. Adam Finkelstein said the 6-foot-2 guard will go live at 4 PM EST with 247Sports and CBS Sports on CBS Sports HQ and the CBS Sports College Basketball YouTube channel.

Alston’s list has been whittled down to Kentucky, Tennessee, Wichita State, LSU and Louisville.

That connection with the Cardinals has been building for a while. Alston said of Louisville, "I like my relationship with the program.

I have been talking to them the last couple of years. My relationship keeps building.

They want me to take care of the team," Alston told 247's Brandon Jenkins of his relationship with Louisville. "It is nothing different from what the other coaches are telling me."

Louisville’s staff was in to see him in September, and Alston also took an official visit for last December’s home game against Memphis.

His high school coach said Louisville likes the way he runs things on the floor. "They (Louisville) really love the way he leads by example on the floor," Alston's high school coach told Cardinal Authority.

"They'd like to see him continue to get more and more vocal, which is a natural thing as kids get older. A few of them have mentioned that they like that he can be coached hard."

Alston’s background is well known, too. His father, Rafer - better known as "Skip to My Lou" - was a streetball legend and played in the NBA from 1999 to 2010. Rafer coached Reese with Cooz Elite on the Puma Circuit this summer.

Alston also checked in with LSU, Kentucky and Tennessee in September, and Will Wade and the Tigers made a strong push during that stretch.

Louisville and Pat Kelsey already have one commitment in the 2027 class, local top-60 power forward Ferlandes Wright.

The Cardinals are also in the mix for another major name. Five-star forward DeMarcus Henry announced his top four earlier this week and included Louisville. He is set to make his decision on Friday.

Louisville Faces A Stanford Offense Built Around Two Rising Threats

Stanfords offense brings Louisville a familiar kind of test: one part volatility, one part danger. Quarterback Davis Warren has had stretches where the passing game clicks and others where it stalls, while the Cardinals will also have to account for running back Micah Ford, who has come on lately and adds another layer to the game plan. Add in a receiving group that can create problems and an offensive line that will determine how much time Warren has to settle in, and Louisville has a real week-of-prep puzzle on its hands.

For the Cardinals, the emphasis has to be on forcing Warren into uncomfortable snaps and making Stanford earn everything. That means getting pressure without losing shape in coverage, because the ball can still get to the right place if Louisville is too aggressive or too passive. The challenge is less about chasing one star than about handling a front that wants to spring Ford and a passing attack that can look dangerous when Warren finds a rhythm. [Read more 🡒]

Mikel Brown Jr. Just Gave Louisville Fans A Glimpse Of His Ceiling

Mikel Brown Jr. is only a few games into his NBA career with the Brooklyn Nets, but his third appearance offered the kind of preview Louisville fans had to notice. The former Cardinal delivered his best pro performance yet, scoring 17 points with five rebounds and five assists while topping the 20-minute mark for the first time. It was the sort of outing that suggested he is starting to find his footing at the next level.

Brown's biggest moment came late, when he helped fuel a fourth-quarter push with a string of clutch plays and capped it with a buzzer-beater that sent the game to overtime. Brooklyn still came up short, but the late-game confidence and shot-making stood out in a way that went beyond a simple box score. For Louisville supporters, it was a clear glimpse of how high his ceiling might be if this is what he looks like this early. [Read more 🡒]

Seth Trimble Is Giving Louisville Fans Another Reason To Watch Closely

Seth Trimbles arrival at Louisville already gave the Cardinals a new backcourt storyline, and now he has added another layer to it before even getting fully settled in. The guard has been named to the 2027 Jerry West Award Preseason Watch List, a nod from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame that highlights the nations top shooting guards in Division I mens basketball.

Trimble brings plenty of recognition with him after four seasons at North Carolina, where he built a rsum that made him a familiar name well before he landed in Louisville. For the Cardinals, the watch-list selection is another reminder that this transfer could matter well beyond depth and rotation pieces, with Trimble now positioned to be one of the more closely tracked players on the roster this season.
