Louisville football fans already had enough reason to keep one eye on Ja’Hyde Brown, and now another local name is making the Cardinals’ recruiting picture even messier.
Brown, a Louisville native and a 4-star commitment to the Cardinals since early 2026, had been set for a visit to Kentucky this past weekend after previously making a trip to Florida. But the Louisville commitment ultimately stayed put and canceled the planned visit to the Wildcats.
Kentucky still came away with a major recruiting development, though. Allen Evans, the former Louisville commit and current 4-star cornerback, took an official visit to Lexington for the Wildcats’ showdown with LSU.
Evans is no stranger to Louisville fans. The Trinity High School standout is a Louisville native, and he was once a centerpiece in the Cardinals’ recruiting class. After drawing more than 20 offers, he trimmed his list to 10 schools that included Louisville, Alabama, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt.
He first committed to Louisville and Jeff Brohm on January 10 before flipping to Vanderbilt on June 26, a change that hit the Cardinals hard. Evans was the sixth-highest commitment in Louisville football history and a major win for the program’s 2027 class before the decommitment sent the other way.
Now, Kentucky has its chance to make another move. Evans’ visit to the Wildcats was noted by Allen Trieu, who also reported that the Vanderbilt commit has two more visits scheduled over the next two weeks, including trips to Ole Miss and Auburn.
Evans remains a unanimous 4-star prospect in the 2027 class and is viewed as one of the better defensive backs in the cycle. He is ranked as high as No. 76 overall, a top-100 national prospect by On3 Sports, ESPN, and 247 Sports, and as high as No. 9 among cornerbacks. Those same outlets also list him as Kentucky’s second-best recruit.
For Louisville, the nightmare scenario is obvious: seeing Evans land with a rival after already losing him once. The dream would be getting him back in the fold and pairing him with Brown, but that appears unlikely at this point.
Evans’ junior season offered plenty to like, too. He posted 28 tackles and two interceptions and did not allow a single touchdown.

Louisville Faces A New Test After Florida State Breakthrough
Louisville gets another chance to build on its Florida State breakthrough when it turns to Syracuse this week, with the Cardinals trying to move to 4-3 and keep some momentum rolling in what has become a pivotal stretch of the season. The oddsmakers like their chances, too, with Louisville installed as a 13.5-point favorite and ESPN Analytics giving the Cardinals a 75.9 percent shot to come away with a win.
The challenge now is making sure the Seminoles game looks like a turning point instead of a one-off. Syracuse offers a different kind of test, and Louisvilles ability to back up that recent performance will say plenty about where this team really stands as it works through the middle of the schedule. Jeff Brohms Syracuse Update Leaves Louisville Waiting On Two Key Issues
Jeff Brohm used his latest Syracuse update to clear up a bit of the Cardinals weekly structure on one side of the ball, confirming that Brian Brohm will keep handling the game-day playcalling on offense. On defense, assistants Mike Cassity and David Elson will continue working alongside coordinator Mark Ivey as Louisville gets ready for a Saturday night trip to Syracuse on the ACC Network.
The bigger question for the Cardinals is on the injury front, where the staff is still monitoring running back Keyjuan Brown and offensive lineman Anwar Oneal. Both are important pieces as Louisville tries to line up its rotation and protection plan for a late kickoff, and the final availability call could shape how the Cardinals approach one of the more important road tests on the schedule. Louisville Just Gave Jeff Brohm A Real ACC Opening
Louisvilles win over Florida State did more than even the Cardinals record at 3-3. It also kept Jeff Brohms team within striking distance in a conference race that still feels wide open, and the way it happened mattered just as much as the result. A goal-line stand set the tone, Isaac Brown ripped off a 97-yard touchdown run, and Louisville turned a tense ACC night into a 44-20 statement.
As the league heads into Week 7, the updated ACC Power Rankings reflect just how much movement there still is across the conference. For Louisville, the opportunity is obvious now: the path is there if the Cardinals can stack more performances like this one, but the margin for error remains thin in a race where one good week can change the picture fast.
