According to insider Joe Tipton, Kansas is currently leading the race for Stokes' commitment. However, the process is being slowed by ongoing NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) negotiations.
As the No. 1 recruit, Stokes is expected to command a substantial NIL deal. Kansas already boasts an impressive 2026 class, featuring another five-star and several four-star talents.
The recruitment of Stokes is a dynamic situation, with NIL deals potentially tipping the scales. Kansas appears to have the edge, but Kentucky, lacking any commitments for 2026, might be willing to offer a more lucrative deal to secure Stokes. Coach Bill Self faces the challenge of deciding if the investment is worthwhile.

At one point, Oregon was also in the running, but they now appear to be trailing behind, making this a two-horse race between Kentucky's Mark Pope and Kansas' Bill Self.
