As the NCAA Tournament heats up, Louisville basketball is gearing up to face the Michigan State Spartans in the round of 32. For Louisville fans, all eyes might initially be on Spartans' standouts Jeremy Fears Jr. and Jaxon Kohler, both of whom are nearly averaging a double-double. But there's another name that resonates deeply with the Cardinals' faithful: Kaleb Glenn.
A Louisville native, Glenn once donned the Cardinals' colors during the 2023-24 season. He was a highly-touted 4-star recruit, ranked as high as No. 64 nationally, No. 14 among small forwards, and No. 2 out of Indiana.
Glenn’s commitment to Louisville over programs like Indiana, South Carolina, and Tennessee was a big win for the Cardinals. He brought an impressive high school resume, averaging 15.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, and shooting 54% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc at La Lumiere School.
However, Glenn's freshman season at Louisville didn't pan out as hoped. Averaging just 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, and with the team struggling to an 8-24 record, change was inevitable.
When Pat Kelsey took over as head coach, Glenn found himself at a crossroads. Despite his desire to stay, he entered the Transfer Portal after Kelsey expressed intentions to "clear house."
Reflecting on the transition, Glenn shared, "I for sure wanted to stay. I'm from Louisville, and I didn't really want to leave, to be honest.
So, I met with him, and he said he wanted to clear house. So I went elsewhere."
Glenn's move to FAU proved transformative. In his sophomore year, he blossomed, averaging 12.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, with shooting splits of 53.1% from the field and 41% from three-point range. His performance caught the eye of Michigan State's Tom Izzo, making Glenn a key offseason acquisition from the Transfer Portal, where he ranked No. 81 overall and No. 15 among small forwards.
Unfortunately, Glenn won't be suiting up against Louisville today due to a torn patellar tendon suffered in June. As the Cardinals and Spartans tip-off at 2:45 p.m., Louisville aims to advance to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2015. Fans will undoubtedly be watching closely, both for the game at hand and for the echoes of what might have been with Glenn still in a Cardinals uniform.
